Hello, and thanks for stopping by for this second part in my ongoing series of articles dedicated to helping you find that dream job: working in the cigar industry. Most people think of working in the fields, sweating their buns off, or rolling cigars in a dimly lit factory until their hands cramp up while a man with a thick accent reads Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea to them. And you can certainly strive for that job. But the jobs I am talking about in this series are those jobs you may not think of, that offer you a comfortable local, and hopefully, better pay. So come inside, and read along…your future might be just inside these pages.
If you read the last article in this series, then you understand how this goes. If you need a refresher, in the last episode we talked about a job that is near and dear to my heart: writing. I tried to give you an insight into the life of a writer, the process of building a portfolio, the different types of jobs, and how to get started, as well as a little payment info.
Writing of course is a thin market, at least if you want to make money at it, and let’s face it: not everyone has the talent or the love of the written word. But that does not mean there are no other creative jobs in the industry. Indeed, there are a plethora of them. In this article, we will continue taking the creative slant and look at the artist/graphic design/video production side.
Being an Artist
When you think of artist, two things usually come to mind: artists like Picasso and Da Vinci, and beatnik artists with their pointy goat-tees, berets, and pictures of Campbell’s Soup. Artists have a notorious reputation for never getting rich until after they are dead, and it is not always the truth. In fact, nowadays you can easily make money as an artist if you know where (and how) to get work.
