There have not been a lot of vintages of Glenroths released.  Which makes collecting them kind of fun.  One doesn’t come out every year, so when they do they are enjoyable to go after.  Glenroths also makes single cask malts.  A single cask is rare, and determined when a taster finds the absolute best of an individual sample.  This single cask is then bottled and then released.  To give you an idea of how rare this is, in 2008 only 10 single casks were bottled.

Another aspect of Glenroths that I find attractive is its simplicity.  Glenroths bottles their single Speyside malts in very simple bottles based on the classic sampling bottles used throughout the distillery.  The bottle, its label, and its packaging is very minimalist and actually includes the year, a few tasting notes, and that’s about it.  Glenroths leaves it up to you to determine the true aspects of the whiskey.

If you are cigar collector, and if you’re reading this there’s a good chance you are, collecting the different vintages of Glenroths is a blast.  Apart from the simple complement a good single malt scotch gives a cigar, the Glenroths vintages allow you to compare the changes in this product over time.  Much like cigars, single malt scotches are a product of the earth.  Oftentimes the more man interferes with these products the less value they have to your palette.  Like good cigar tobacco that is carefully grown, fermented, and gently made into a beautiful cigar, the process of making a single malt scotch is also a thing of beauty and delicacy.

For me, grabbing a exceptional vintage cigar, and lining up to a few good vintages of Glenroths single malt scotch, provides a relaxing, palette pleasing, near perfect evening.  And of course unlike cigars a little overindulgence can leave you a bit worse for wear in the morning.  A small price to pay for the enjoyment one can get from a good cigar and scotch.
