Well I’m sure that you don’t have to be crazy to become a cigar maker here in the United States, but if you ask Allen Mobley of Lawrenceburg Kentucky, he’ll probably tell you that being a little crazy sure doesn’t hurt the chances of succeeding in the cigar making business.
And that’s the business that Allen is in; his company, Kentucky Gentlemen Cigars Co. manufactures cigars in what was once the barn behind his house in Lawrenceburg Kentucky. And Allen is so involved in the manufacturing process that he’s taken the time to learn how to hand-roll cigars and soon the Kentucky Proud line of cigars will be available - hand-rolled by the boss himself.
While the idea of being so hands-on may be unusual for an American manufacturer Allen’s continual thinking outside the square is what has made Kentucky Gentlemen Cigars the success that it is today.
Have you ever thought of combining moonshine with fine tobacco leaf? That combination is something that most cigar experts just couldn’t see as being a good fit but not Allen. Some in the company thought that such a combination was crazy but Allen produced his Moonshine cigar and it’s turned out to be one very potent and very popular cigar.
It seems that the secret to success when it comes to the unusual blending that goes into Allen’s cigars is all in the spray bottle he sometimes carries when he’s thinking about a new blend. The bottle invariably contains whatever the main liquid ingredient is going to be and a quick spray into his mouth shows Allen what the taste will be like.
