Undeterred, Allen bought more seeds on another trip to Cuba, took them to the Dominican Republic and then mailed them to himself in the United States - something that was not covered by the embargo.

That wasn’t the end of his problems however and local growers were not happy at the thought of growing new varieties of tobacco. However Allen gradually won them over and today those seeds that he mailed to himself just a few years ago are helping him to build a distinct brand in the competitive world of cigar making.

While many men start to think of retiring when they reach their sixties Allen feels that he’s only just started in the industry and he plans on growing his business even more. There’s always that one million cigar target and of course he could go well beyond that and really put Lawrenceburg Kentucky on the map. If you’re ever down that way be sure to stop in at the little red barn out the back of Allen’s home. There’s a showroom and shop and plenty of fine hand-rolled cigars and you’ll always be welcome.

It is great to see a story like this about someone that isn't about to quit even with obstacles put in front of him. I for one look forward to smoking one of these home grown cigars and may even take a trip down to see the ole boy and buy them from him in person. It sounds to me like the man would be a good person to sit and chat with for a while and more than not smoke a hand rolled cigar with him.
