Although the blues cruises are the most popular and in demand, there are cruises for lovers of all kinds of music. If you want to relive the fifties, or “Grease” is still your favorite movie, go back in time with the Malt Shop Memories Cruise. Artists on board include Dion, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love and a whole bunch of groups from the era. This cruise departs Ft. Lauderdale on October 27 for Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and the Bahamas before returning to port November 3. Prices start at $1,900 per person for an inside cabin going up to $5,500 per person for a penthouse balcony suite. This is one of the few music cruises that doesn't have many of its cabins already sold.

Also in the nostalgia vein is the Soul Train Cruise, which will be hustling across the Caribbean from February 17-24, 2013 with R&B legends Patti LaBelle, The O'Jays, Kool & The Gang, Jeffrey Osborne and War on board for nightly concerts. This cruise sets sail from Ft. Lauderdale with stops at Turks and Caicos, San Juan, St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay. Rates start at $1875 per person with early booking discounts available through April 30, 2012.

If you’re in the mood for some shit-kickin’ music, or became a fan of country star Blake Shelton from the TV show “The Voice,” join the singer and his friends for a week-long honkytonk on the high seas. The Blake Shelton Cruise will head out of Miami on October 14 with stops in San Juan, St. Thomas, Tortula and Nassau before returning on October 21. All week long, you’ll be treated to nightly concerts by Blake and fellow country stars Trace Adkins, Randy Houser, Neal McCoy and Easton Corbin, plus late-night dance parties. If you’re an aspiring artist, hone your chops at songwriter workshops and the karaoke contests. Cabins start at $999 per person.

The Smooth Jazz Cruise is already taking reservations for the two 2013 cruises, January 13-20 and January 20-27, which will feature David Sanborn, George Benson, Marcus Miller, Jonathan Butler and Candy Dulfer. The cruise sails out of Ft. Lauderdale for Cozumel, Belize City and Key West. Rates start at $1725 per person for an inside cabin and go up to $8,000 per person for a penthouse suite. Plan ahead, since more than half the reservations for the 2013 cruise are already sold.

If you don’t see a cruise for your favorite kind of music mentioned here, that may be because that one has already happened for this year and the schedule for 2013 has not been announced yet. If these are more your style, check their websites for info on next year’s cruises.

The Monsters of Rock cruise is currently hitting Florida and the Bahamas with more than a dozen hard rock bands including Tesla, Cinderella, Firehouse, Bang Tango and Faster Pussycat. Prices this year ranged from $769 to $1299 per person.

The 2012 Beatles Tribute Cruise took place February 4-11, sailing from Ft Lauderdale with several Beatles tribute bands on board. Prices for this year’s cruise began at $1315 per person.

If you love singer/songwriters, the cruise for you is Cayamo – A Journey Through Song. The 2012 cruise took place February 5-12 and featured Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Richard Thompson, Keb’ Mo’, Buddy Miller, Loudon Wainwright III and Iris Dement. Pricing and artists for the 2013 cruise will be available at I can personally recommend this cruise because two of my friends just got back and are still raving over what a great time they had.

Music cruises aren’t cheap, but if you’re really into your favorite music, the right one could provide you with the best vacation you ever had!

for those wishing to travel a little further afield, I found a music cruise of the Norwegian Fjords in July.
