It's a beautiful Spring morning on Friday, as the sun creeps over the horizon at 6:30 am. As I type this, I have a sublime La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro No. 7 wafting blue smoke...

La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro No. 7...and steam rising off a large cup of fresh ground Espresso. Now that's what I call breakfast. Some mornings, I'll actually eat a real breakfast with eggs and sausage, or a bagel, or oatmeal.

This morning I'm still stuffed after making Chef Phil's Braised Garlic Short Ribs with a Red Wine Tomato Sauce recipe last night for dinner. I know. I didn't have to eat it all, but it was so good!

Now, back to this La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro No. 7. Today is one of the few days where I'm working from home instead of going into the office. The bad part about that is that I don't get to flirt with all the hot downtown office babes in their skirts and heels with their hair up in a bun. Librarian fantasies drift into my head, but I digress. The good part about working from home is that I will chain-smoke cigars all day long. Yum!

This La Gloria, when you look at it, it is beautiful. An image of perfection. It has a dark, completely black, silky, shiny wrapper, and a fat (or should I say phat) .58 ring gauge, seven inches long. At first look I thought, I better not smoke that at 6:30 in the morning or it will knock me on my ass. It looks like it's got enough power to get an Elephant high. However, it was too alluring to resist. Let's spark this baby up.

"Surprise, surprise, surprise"...to quote Gomer Pyle. The taste is rich and full-bodied. Smoking this is like eating Ghirardelli Chocolates for breakfast. It's not overpowering. It's rich and flavorful, with no calories! You can buy them in singles or by the box at Cigar.com.

Every once in a while as I enjoy a fine cigar, I think about Sam, a former neighbor of mine. Sam is the guy that got me started smoking cigars back in 1998. It was just after I got divorced. I now had more time to hang out with the guys and was able to smoke cigars in the house. Sam moved away a few years ago, but I still remember that first cigar and buying my first humidor a few days later. Now I have three humidors and a varied collection of smokes from mild to wild.

How did you get started smoking cigars?

Kev
