Moving on, pricing is important.  A B&M located in an expensive downtown area where rent is higher could charge more than a shop located outside city limits.  Remember this when choosing your store.

What about selection?  You want to have the largest selection possible, so you may be better served visiting a larger shop than a smaller one.  If one shop doesn’t carry your favorite brand, you’ll obviously want to find one that does cater to your needs.  Certain shops are also regarded by manufacturers as being higher up the food chain, so they’ll receive more exclusive releases than others.

If you want your B&M to be much more than just a place to purchase cigars, see whether or not it has a lounge or area designated for smoking.  Lounges are becoming increasingly popular across the country, and with good reason.  These setups give smokers the chance to relax in an atmosphere dedicated to smoking.  You’ll often find entertainment, comfortable seating, and drinks to accompany your cigars right after you buy.  You can even interact with other smokers to bond over the hobby and share recommendations on your favorite brands.

Does the B&M regularly host events?  This is another draw.  Cigar events are great ways to try hot and new cigars before they’re released to the public, so find out if any B&M in your area is a hotspot for such gatherings.

Other factors to consider when searching for a B&M store include policies.  Do they have a return policy?  Is it lenient, or are you stuck once you make your purchase?  What if you simply don’t like the cigar and purchased a box?  Will the store accept a return?  You also might want to find out if the store lets you sample cigars before purchasing them.  It may sound odd but some could allow this if they are particularly friendly or value you as a customer.  It’s a good way to know what you’re getting before forking over any cash.

Again, all of these factors are probably best determined in person, but don’t forget to search for online reviews, as they will offer differing opinions and give you a nice overview of what a store is like.
