Comfort

You can’t zone out if you are uncomfortable, so investing in a superb couch or big leather chairs should be high on your list of priorities.  If you have a small bar setup or expect to have many friends over on a frequent basis, don’t forget to stock up on some bar stools or smaller chairs for poker nights.  Depending on the climate where you live, you’ll either need some type of cooling or heating system to keep the temperature just right.

Cigars

First things first, get a good humidor.  Get a large one if you like to have cigars handy for your friends, or you can go the homemade route and easily build a coolidor.  Don’t forget accessories such as lighters and ashtrays.

Before you go ahead and start lighting cigars in your man cave, make sure you have some sort of ventilation system set up.  This is extremely important, as you want cigar smoke to escape to other parts of the house.  If you do, your wife may make you sleep down there!  There are several fans, air purification systems, and more on the market for smokers, so shop around.  It’s ideal to have a way to eliminate the smoke and bring fresh air in, so you could consult an HVAC expert to play it safe.  Do not make this the last thing on your list, as proper ventilation is the basis for any cigar man cave.  Also, if you are worried about lingering smoke smell, consider a hardwood floor over carpet, and leather furniture over fabric.

Decorations

Adding decorations to your man cave are a great way to give it a homey, masculine feel.  Internet sites like eBay and Amazon are great tools for finding affordable sports memorabilia like signed jerseys or helmets.  You can also look for sites that specialize in man cave decorations such as road signs and neon signs similar to the ones you find in actual bars.  Posters are a good choice if you are on a limited budget, as are flags.  Look for some interesting lighting fixtures too if you want to be able to change the mood on the fly.
