How you eat is just as important as what you eat
Determining what to put into your body is an important decision, but the method in which complete the action is vital as well. Food is supposed to nourish the body and give it what it needs. Eating should not be viewed as an unwanted hassle. Enjoy your meals, and savor your food. Chewing slowly not only lets you appreciate flavor, but it also helps with digestion. Avoid overeating and going for second helpings. The full feeling you get is no coincidence. It's your body telling you that it has had enough.
If you have a family or friends, make it a habit to eat with them. This is not only socially healthy, but it will usually mean that you will eat at a slower pace. Many times when people eat in front of the television, they forget they are doing so, and will continue eating even though they feel full.
The times at which you eat are also important. Breakfast is essential to kick-starting your metabolism. Instead of eating the traditional three meals per day, opt for smaller meals six times per day. This will help keep your metabolism at an optimal level.

Moderation, moderation, moderation
As with most things in life, moderation is extremely important when it comes to food. For your body to remain healthy, it must have a balanced diet. Some diets may claim that you must avoid certain food groups at all costs. While there are certain foods that provide little nutritional value, it may seem impossible to completely say goodbye to them. This is especially true when it comes to snack foods. In the beginning, you can still enjoy these, but do so less often, or in small portions. More than likely, you will not miss them as much.
Perhaps the biggest challenge in the moderation department comes with eating out. Whether it's ordering out or at a restaurant, the portion sizes seem to have grown exponentially. The rise in obesity could be attributed to this in a way, but that does not mean it has to affect you. You can split your entree with a partner, or just opt for an appetizer. Avoid going for the appetizer, entree, dessert combo, as those are usually calorie overdoses. Resist the temptation to go large by super-sizing any orders as well, especially if at a fast food restaurant.
