health1 In part 1 of this series of lifestyle tips, methods and mindsets of healthy eating were discussed. Now, it is time to discuss the actual foods that should be included in your diet to get you on your way to a healthier lifestyle. As stated in part 1 last week, the American public is experiencing an obesity epidemic that is affecting large numbers of both children and adults. To overcome this problem, healthy eating habits must be exercised. Here are some specific examples of categories of foods that should be consumed on a routine basis.

Make water your beverage of choice

When you are at your local supermarket, it can be very tempting to stock up on juices, soda, or other flavored drinks. The problem is, these choices add high amounts of sugar and calories to your diet. If you eat properly but drink poorly, you will negate the positive aspects you have implemented into your diet. When it comes to beverages, you want water to dominate your daily regimen of liquids.

Eight glasses of water per day is a solid standard to follow. This will help keep your body hydrated properly, which in turn gives you more energy and prevents unwanted symptoms such as headaches. Water is a powerful tool that gets rid of the toxins and waste products in the body that can cause feelings of sluggishness. One source of water, other than the drink itself, is the previously mentioned group of fruits and vegetables, as both offer plenty of water themselves.
