Add some entertainment

While many exercises, such as those that involve lifting weight, require full concentration, others do not. For example, many cardio exercises, such as jogging or running on the treadmill, using the elliptical machine, or riding the exercise bike do not necessarily require your full attention. As such, many people find these activities to be boring and tedious. Your mind may wander while performing them, and sometimes you may find yourself in need of entertainment to take your mind off the task.

Depending on the gym, you may be lucky enough to have a mini television hooked up to your cardio machine. This allows you hook up your headphones and watch TV as you workout. Having such a luxury takes the boredom out of the exercise. In addition, your mind will be occupied with watching the program you selected, which in turn will usually make you workout for longer periods of time. In the end, you entertained yourself and also burned plenty of calories in the process.

If you find that using this setup works for you, try scheduling your gym visits around a favorite television program, or maybe even a sporting event. You can enjoy the show and exercise at the same time, killing two birds with one stone.

What if your gym doesn't have personal TVs? Get a MP3 player. Fill it up with some of your favorite songs. Depending on your personality and the workout you're doing, your playlist will likely waver. If you enjoy weightlifting and releasing frustration, load up your player with harder music that is fast paced. If you're doing something low-key, listen to softer music that puts your mind at ease. Looking to maximize your mind and body at the same time? Put an audiobook on your player. If your player is already loaded with playlists, change them up, or look for new music and artists that will help change your mood and motivate you.
