puffbeachmainSummer is just around the corner, and that means many of us are planning for a long-awaited vacation. If your preferred getaway involves sunny days spent on a warm beach, now’s the time to start planning so you can get the best prices for travel and accommodations.

There’s no one perfect beach for everyone, but there are special stretches of sand that are better suited to certain activities and lifestyles. Are you up for some outdoor sports, or would you rather relax on the sand with a cold drink and watch the action on the shore? You don’t even need a passport or shots to find your perfect beach, because there are so many right here in the U.S. Here are a few for your vacation consideration.

Best beaches for girl watching:

Manhattan Beach, Southern California
What red-blooded guy of any age doesn't enjoy watching pretty girls in teeny bikinis? There’s no better beach for watching the babes strut their stuff than this SoCal favorite, which was voted Best Beach for Girl Watching by L.A. Magazine. It’s easy to see why, since the bars and shops of Manhattan Beach Boulevard are nearby, and swimsuits are acceptable attire everywhere.

Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California
To the north of Manhattan Beach, Venice is another SoCal hotspot that’s teeming with beautiful bodies of both sexes and everyone is friendly and relaxed. The boardwalk is lined with bars, cafes and restaurants where you can just sit and watch the action, or flex your muscles at a beach gym. What could be easier on the eyes than a suntanned surfer girl skating on the boardwalk in a string bikini?

South Beach, Miami, Florida
This is where the beautiful people go to see and be seen on the East Coast. Models, actors and other celebrities regularly mingle with the natives on the sand and in the posh hotels along the beach. The real action in South Beach starts after the sun goes down, when the party people head for the beachside bars and clubs to drink, dance and (hopefully) hook up.

Best beaches for families:

Coronado, San Diego, California
Cruising the sand for bikini-honeys is great when you’re single, but when you’re looking for a place to take the wife and kids, you have different priorities—like making sure the whole clan has fun and nobody drowns. The Coronado shore is just a short ferry ride from downtown San Diego and has cool activities for the entire family, like swimming, surfing and boogie boarding. The historic Hotel del Coronado provides a scenic backdrop for a memorable vacation, and offers kite making or sand castle building for the kids. If this place looks familiar, it’s the location for the classic Marilyn Monroe film “Some Like it Hot.”

Cape May, New Jersey
This National Historic District is dotted with quaint Victorian homes, and has something for every member of the family. There’s the gorgeous shoreline, the wide sandy beach and ice cream shops that will please the little ones. The grownups can have their own kind of fun with the array of fabulous seafood restaurants, boutique hotels and horse-drawn carriage rides. For a wilder kind of fun, there’s the North Wildwood boardwalk a short drive away.

Daytona Beach, Florida
There’s plenty to keep the family amused along Daytona’s 23 miles of sandy white beach. If you can drag the kids away from the ocean long enough, they’ll love the Marine Science Center, the Daytona 500 Speedway tour or the NASA Kennedy Space Center in nearby Cape Canaveral. Just another hour’s drive away are the Disney theme parks in Orlando.
