Cuesta-Rey

The Cuesta-Rey has some historical significance, as it was once the cigar of choice for Spain's King Alfonso XIII. The Cuesta-Rey comes in three different versions, all of which are handmade in the Dominican Republic: the Centro Fino, the Cabinet Collection, and the Centenario.
The Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino, or “fine center,” is a medium to full-bodied cigar with a filler of Dominican Ligero tobacco that has been aged for five years. It has a Dominican binder and an Ecuadorian Sumatra Sun Grown wrapper that is said to give the cigar a lot of flavor.
The Cuesta-Rey Cabinet Collection has a Dominican filler and binder as well. Its wrapper, however, is of the African Cameroon variety. The Cabinet Collection is a milder, smoother cigar that carries notes of spice and coffee.
The Centenario version of the Cuesta-Rey line is mild to medium-bodied. It has a smooth, creamy profile and features a Dominican filler and binder. The Centenario comes in a Connecticut Shade (Natural) wrapper or a Connecticut Broadleaf (Maduro) wrapper.
La Unica
The La Unica line was introduced in 1986, and it was the result of another collaborative effort between Stanford Newman and Carlos Fuente, Sr. Newman challenged Fuente to create a rich, yet smooth cigar to be packaged in bundles for affordability, and the La Unica was it. The line achieved success quickly, as it became the top selling premium bundle cigar in the United States after just six months on the market.
The La Unica now comes in cedar cabinets of 20, but still uses the same original blend. It has an aged Dominican Cuban Seed filler, and comes in your choice of a Natural or Maduro version. The La Unica is said to offer plenty of complexity, and is described as being smooth and creamy. The La Unica line is offered in six different sizes.
That concludes this profile of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. Keep coming back for more cigar company profiles in the future here on Puff.com.
