Question: My pipe is making a weird sound when I smoke it. What is it and how do I stop it?
Answer: It depends on the type of sound. If it is like a voice, then I would say some medication might help the situation; a snap, crackle, pop sound means you should stop eating cereal out of your pipe…you poured your cereal in the wrong bowl. Of course, if the sound is a sort of gurgly, liquid sound, then that is something else altogether.
A pipe gurgle is pretty common and happens liquid collects at the bottom of the bowl. As you draw on your pipe, it creates bubbles, and those bubbles create that weird sound you keep hearing. Don’t worry – it isn’t a broken pipe and the fix is pretty simple.
The first, and perhaps most obvious fix, is to clean the stem of the pipe out with a pipe cleaner, getting rid of all the built-up moisture. Another solution is to stop the moisture at its starting point, aka, your mouth.
For starters, do not speak with the pipe in your mouth. Aside from making you look funny as the pipe bobs up and down in your mouth, it also allows moisture to ooze into your pipe. Also, when not puffing away, you may wish to either hold the pipe in your hand, or block the entrance hole with your tongue, so none of your saliva goes where it shouldn’t.
Other than that, there could be several other reasons, such as moist tobacco, which can be fixed by proper storage.
