cigarrolling1So you know everything there is to know about cigars, your collection’s too big to fit in your humidor, and you’ve smoked every brand on the planet. You’re a true cigar aficionado with a knowledge to rival Carlos Fuente - but have you ever tried rolling your own stogies? The revered art of cigar rolling is often a well-kept secret. An-age old technique practiced by those who’ve been lucky enough to learn it, it’s an intricate process that has been passed down through generations of cigar-makers.   Rollers like Castelar Cairo, who recently broke Cuba’s longest cigar record for his 268ft stogie, were practically born with cigar papers in their hands. A technique kept within long-established cigar families, it has lead to prestigious careers for top-rollers from Juan Escobar to Handsome Jimmy. But the world of the cigar-roller is not as inaccessible as it once was.

With world records being smashed and cigar rolling hitting the headlines once again, we thought it was a good time to tell you where to go to become a top torcedor.  Tours, courses and masterclasses are popping up around the world, allowing seasoned smokers to cut their teeth on the cigar-rolling scene. With everything from luxury rolling tours to professional courses, here’s your chance to master the age-old art of cigar rolling.

Graycliff’s Cigar Classes

The Graycliff Cigar Company promise their cigar-rolling classes will turn you into a torcedor in a few short hours. Based in tropical Nassau in the Bahamas, the lesson begins with an introduction to the history of tobacco. You’ll learn where the best leaves come from, and which tobacco plants should be blended together, so you have the knowledge to put together your perfect stick. Taught by Graycliff’s master rollers, you’ll be taken through each step of the cigar-rolling process, and leave with your very own hand-rolled stogie. Graycliff also throw in a complimentary cigar and cigar cutter, so you can see how yours compares to the real thing.

The Los Blancos Roll ’n’ Smoke Tour

If you fancy learning to roll in exotic surroundings with a swimming pool and rum-tasting thrown in too, then this is the course for you. Run by the Los Blancos Cigar Company, the rolling class is part of a five-day getaway taking you deep into the heart of the Nicaragua and Honduras cigar region. You’ll get taken to three different cigar factories, where you’ll be able to see first-hand how cigars are manufactured, and you’ll also visit a tobacco farm to learn how the journey of a cigar begins . As part of the special cigar-rolling class, you’ll get the chance to hand-pick leaves from a selection of aged tobacco to create your own personalised stogie. There’s also a rum and cigar pairing session, and a tour of a coffee factory to keep you entertained, and you’ll come away with twenty-five Los Blancos cigars - everyone’s a winner!

Boston’s Cigar Masters

Nestled in Boston’s Back Bay, Cigar Masters is running two-hour practical workshops where you can roll your sleeves up and start making your very own stogies. Learning all the tricks of the trade, you’ll discover how a cigar is transformed from a tobacco seed into the finished product. You and five friends will be taught the precise process of rolling and wrapping cigars, and you’ll also get a few tips on cutting, lighting and maintaining your humidor. This cigar rolling demo also comes with an ale pairing session, and is run by a friendly bunch of people who are truly committed to the art of the cigar.

Really there is nobody that has a course like this geared toward the industry. We have been training rollers for almost 15 years.

Bobalu Cigar Company presents Cigar Rollers School. This intensive seven (7) day course is geared toward the cigar industry and those wanting to bring back cigar rolling skills to their own shop. Classes are on a one to one basis and instruction will be provided by highly experienced cigar rollers. We will teach you both the Cuban as well as the Dominican style of cigar making. This course will teach you every aspect of the cigar rolling process from selecting and blending the leaf to box presentation after completion of the final wrapper phase. You will roll cigar in our heavily trafficked window on Austin's famous 6th Street as your final test before you "graduate". http://www.livecigarrollers.com/rollercam.php
This is a "can't miss" investment and an absolute must for the serious cigar entrepreneur or store owner. The payoff is increased traffic, customer appeal, and higher margins. Set yourself apart from the competition. We have already taken the risk and proven that it is worth its weight in gold. Now is your chance to cash in and turbo charge your business.

Cigar Molds, cutting boards, chavetas (cigar cutting "knife"), glue, cigar presses, and all other related equipment available at market price. Filler, binder, and wrapper leaf, along with factory rolled cigars using the same blends of tobacco, are also available.

Hi, Im getting married on June 21, 2012 in the corning, ny area. For a wedding gift for my fiance I had wanted to have an instructor come and set up at the reception and be there to teach any of the guests how to roll a cigar. Obviously, w the short time span, Im just looking for someone to show them the quick basics. I'm not completely sure where you're located or if this is something you do, but if it's not I'd appreciate any leads in my area.

Thanks,
Jillian
