Back in the golden age of Hollywood, smoking was prevalent in films and even heroes were seen lighting up a cig or two. Alas, in these more politically correct days, onscreen smokers are rare, which is why we appreciate seeing cigar smoking depicted in films and on television. Here are a few of our favorite characters who make smoking cigars look totally cool.

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer in “Predator”
Since the Governator is a cigar aficionado in real life, Schwarzenegger probably loved playing this badass character in the 1987 action film. How cool is a Vietnam vet who takes cigar breaks while fighting a killer alien and saving the world from extraterrestrial enemies? No wonder this Hollywood hero looks like he enjoys his work! Too bad his foray into politics deprived his fans of several more films as enjoyable as this one.

Clint Eastwood as The Man With No Name in “A Fistful of Dollars”
After spending the fifties as a B-list leading man in lackluster films, Eastwood finally made his name with a trilogy of spaghetti westerns made in Italy. Starting with “A Fistful of Dollars” in 1964 and continuing with “For a Few Dollars More” and “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly,” the lean, lanky actor was the epitome of understated cool. Rumor has it that Eastwood bought his own skinny cigars while on film locations, but however he got them, they added to his mystique.

George Burns as The Devil in “Oh, God! You Devil”
It took imagination to cast lovable George Burns as the Prince of Darkness, but he played both title roles in this 1984 sequel to the 1977 hit film “Oh, God!” Burns was probably the biggest cigar aficionado ever, living to be 100 and seemingly having a smoke in his hand 24/7. The comic actor brought a dry humor to his portrayal of the Devil and always had a twinkle in his eye.

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in “X-Men”
Who says you have to be human to love cigars? Not Jackman’s stogie-puffing, sharp-fingered mutant. The Logan/Wolverine character made his debut in the original “X-Men” movie back in 2000, and Jackman has reprised the role through a series of sequels including “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” due later this year. Logan/Wolverine is almost as well known for his love for Cohiba cigars as for his retractable claws. Since the Marvel-comics inspired “X-Men” films have been such a hit with kids, the studio has been catching flack from non-smoking crusaders about the character’s cigar habit. Hopefully, Logan/Wolverine won’t be forced to abandon his Cohibas for future films.

We aren't done yet.  Keep reading to see some other cool celebrity cigar smokers.
