The Joy of Cigar Dinners
Cigar Laws

The thing that is most difficult in running a cigar dinner nowadays are the damned smoking laws that the Nazi regime feels will save us all from the evils of the world. Of course we’re all too stupid to think for ourselves so these self appointed demigods have taken the liberty to think for us. Ugh. It’s really hard to find a restaurant, bar, or hall where you can hold a private smoking dinner, but as I said, they are cropping up all over the place, thanks to some very dedicated people who are doing whatever they can to preserve our most sacred passion.

One of the tough things about attending a dinner in a non-smoking venue is that there’s NO smoke ventilation and it ends up looking like London at midnight about a half hour in. Tearing, burning eyes and difficulty breathing can be prevalent, but we are Brothers of the Leaf, God damn it! We’re troopers, soldiers of the sacred stogie and we can enjoy our precious handrolled beauties no matter what the condition. Of course your clothes stink like hell and the better half yells and won’t let you anywhere near the sack… but like I always say, I’ll do anything for the cause.

A lot of whisky and spirits companies are combining their tastings with cigar companies as they realize that they can capture pretty much the same audience in one neat little gathering place. Restaurants with outdoor porches are the perfect venue to host such shindigs and even with indoor smoking bans, many establishments are becoming open to the idea. And I say that’s a good thing. I attended a bourbon and maduro event just the other night. It was a beautiful evening – great food, gorgeous women, and some excellent smokes. As I said, I could do this every damned night. Go ahead and try me.

Man, all this cigar and food talk has me hungry and very ready for a good smoke. Who’s up for joining me?
