Question: Sometimes I get nauseas when I smoke a cigar and light headed. Why is that?

Answer: There can be a couple reasons for this. First, you can have yourself a bad cigar, whose tobacco was picked too young, or that wasn’t aged properly. Normally this type of cigar will have a greenish hue to it.

Another reason could be that you are diabetic or are pre-diabetic. When you smoke a cigar, it naturally raises your blood sugar level (this occurs with any nicotine). This can, in turn, account for your light headedness and any feelings of sickness you may have.

And lastly, it might be your first time, and you are trying to smoke a full bodied cigar that has overwhelmed you. Go back and try something milder!

Question: What do the phrases Ligero, Seco, and Volado mean?

Answer: These three words are types of leaves from a tobacco plant (not matter which plant). Ligero refers to the top portion of the plant, while seco comes from the middle of the plant. Finally, the volado come from the bottom of the plant. Each section of the plant has different tastes and burn characteristics, and are all used in the production of cigars.

One interesting thing to note however is that farmers typically remove ligero leaves (top most) from plants. Plants tend to focus all of their energy in their topmost portions, so if a farmer removes this section (which grows back again and again), it forces the plant to focus its energy elsewhere, creating more flavorful crops.
