Hello and welcome back to another article in our series of Puff Glossaries, where we hope to uncover the most common – and uncommon – words that help describe our favorite topic: smoking. We will look at standard English, some old school lingo, and pepper in a bit of slang to boot. So put on your learning glasses and prepare to beef up that vocabulary.
In the past I have focused heavily on cigar smoking glossaries, providing definitions for the cigar lover. For this article I want to take a slightly different approach. I feel that our pipe smoking brethren have been left out of the loop in this series, so I think it is time they felt the spotlight shine upon their interests as well. Besides, there is something about pipe’s that makes them go hand and hand with a good verbal command.
We will start this guide in alphabetical order for ease of use. So, without further ado…behold, the Puff Glossary – December Edition!
African Block Meerschaum: The African Block Meerschaum is a type of pipe that comes out of – you guessed it – Africa (specifically Tanzania). Traditionally the pipe is stained in one of three shades: black, brown, or yellow. It is one of several different types of Meerschaum pipes.
American Blend Tobacco – A blend of Burley, Oriental, and Virginia tobacco that is mixed in with sugar and doused with aromatic flavourings.
Apple – The Apple is a type of pipe shape that is very popular and, as the name implies is shaped like an apple. The English version tends to be smaller than the United States version.
Aromatic Tobacco – At its simplest, aromatic tobacco is tobacco leaf that has flavor added to it. This flavor comes in a wide variety of tastes, such as vanilla, cherry, chocolate, rum, coffee and so forth.
