Regardless of the effort to corrupt the English language by, largely, uneducated youth or people endeavouring to be ‘hip,’ you can’t do it. A pimp is a pimp.
I had hundreds of conversations with cigar makers and retail tobacconists concerning S-Chip and how to deal with it; and the general economic malaise and its impact on cigar sales.
Along comes a very progressive Perdomo Cigars and not only does precisely the right thing; but, he announces it on FaceBook! If that doesn’t tell you something about our 21st Century society, I don’t know what will.
Rather than repeat everything Nick had to say, I’ve inserted a link to the announcement (http://www.facebook.com/inbox/readmessage.php?t=1057349068508&mbox_pos=0)
Try the Perdomo Patriarch, if you haven’t already done so. A very enjoyable, interesting smoke.
I suppose it can be said of other industries; coffee and wine come to mind, but I have always been struck by the many marvelous human beings in the cigar industry.
Being a cigar smoker for decades before I discovered the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua as countries that produced quality cigars, I had gone to Cuba many times. It wasn’t until 1993 that I visited the Dominican Republic with George Brightman, then with Cigar Aficionado, and James Suckling, of the same publication.
During that few days, I met Litto Gomez, Guillermo Leon, Augusto Reyes, Henke Kelner, Manuel Quesada and Jochi Blanco, all of whom I became friends with and whom I number among my friends today.
I am writing this in aid of what…I thought about it because of the loss, to myself and the cigar industry, of Paul Hernandez. I have been thinking about Paul a great deal, and being a sentimental person – appearances to the contrary – it has made me think about how little we express affection and friendship and appreciation to those in our lives.
We all love a product that provides the perfect opportunity for reflection and contemplation. So, whether you’re sitting and smoking with cigar maker, a college friend, or anyone else that impacts on your life, don’t forget to express your appreciation for their friendship. Paul’s untimely, premature departure from this earthly plane made me realize how important that is.
