First I would like to start off and say I am not an expert however I would say it is a little hard to offer information about Pipes. Seeing everyone is different. I would say that Savinelli is a good pipe I have 3 pipes all are about the same in look. However here is where they differ. My Savinelli is a Dri Smoke pipe and uses a 6mm Balsa wood filter, My Dr Grabow uses a 9mm natural wood filter and then I have a No name printed Seconds pipe (not good enough for the name stamp) this pipe is filterless and I like all 3. The question is what pipe tobacco are you going to be smoking? If it is Cavendish I would say look for a dri system pipe. Just make sure you have extra filters and paper towels handy to change them. I have found that the pipe tobacco I am smoking now is Burley and it is not as wet and doesn't burn as hot. Only thing is 2 different flavors and 3 if you mix the 2 can be found at this time in my area. That is Burley Supreme and Captain's Choice that if mixed makes First mate. I have seen more choices online but have not tried them.
