La Gloria Cubana Serie R No.4 Maduro Review
Well writing a review is one way to introduce myself to the board. This is the first real review that I have undergone after the fact of smoking. The topic of the review is a LGC Series R no.4 Maduro. It’s a 4.8” x 52 RG. I really had no expectations heading into the smoke as this is my first LGC as it was recommended to me by a B&M I frequent when I’m down in the states. I live up in Canada and mainly smoke Cuban’s so I was told this should be comparable in strength as I enjoy more powerful and flavourful cigars. So here goes
- Construction: 8.5
It saddens me that I couldn’t give this cigar a higher rating because it is such a nice dark oily leaf. The only problem I had was a slight bit of unravelling of the wrapper at the foot of the cigar. Not a big deal but something to point out. The cap was lovely and upon inspection the filler seemed to be backed well not too hard or soft.
- Burn & Draw: 8.0
The burn was a little uneven but what can you expect for a new cigar. The draw was nice throughout except for a few minutes in the middle where it plugged up but this was salvageable and turned out to be just a minor hiccup.
- Flavor: 7.5
The cigar was a nice and cedary to start with and tobacco and earthy throughout. I was drinking water as not to askew the taste but I think it would pair well with some crown royal on a later occasion. The cigar required a few purges as it was slightly anise which I do not care for. The purging helped and revealed a nice fully flavour that was smooth. I must say that what I have heard about LGC’s seems to be true as more time in the humidor would help in this department. The finish was a bit hot but even now I retain a nice wood flavour.
- Strength: 8.0
This didn’t strike me as a strong cigar so I would place it as medium. Not very much of that tobacco buzz that I am all about but more so than most NC’s.
- Value: 9.0
For what I would pay in Canada for a smoke like this I believe the value is right on.
- Overall: 8.6
Now I don’t want you adding this all up and try and come up with an 8.6 because it’s not gonna happen but this is how I rated my experience. The cigar was good but given more time to mature it will defiantly improve. Given the chance I will be sure to pick up at least a 5 pack to put in the humidor to enjoy in years to come. Well I hope you enjoyed the review and I would like to hear what others say about this cigar. Any and all constructive criticism would be great so I may improve to review again. Cheers.
