What a coincidence you should post this . . . I just finished an almost four year old PAM pyramid just a few minutes ago on my porch.
To begin with, PA series has a decent bit of aging on them to begin with before they ever leave the Padron factory. Just a little background, I bought a box of these for a "song" in 98 from a cigar store which was going belly up. Like you said I had a hard time keeping my hands off them, until there were just six remaining. At that point I decided to chose those far more carefully. This was the lone survivor until tonight, and I am very, very impressed with them.
Cosmetics and construction get an A+ from me as usual, they're the model by which every other cigar should be copied IMHO. Nothing more needs to be said on this point.
This cigar didn't have the power its younger brothers had, but what it lacked in power it made up for in refined character. The best thing I can do to characterize it is
SMOOTH. It was incredibly complex from the first puff to the final draw and the tapered shape of the pyramid probably added to its complexity. Since it is a long cigar, the smoke remained cool all the way to the finger burning end. I wouldn't hesitate to call it full bodied due to its complexity. Age really helps mellow these cigars out and helps enhance the different flavors and lengthen the finish. The finish is another strong point - nice and robust like being in a hardwood forest. I was very dissapointed when I finally had to put this cigar down.
All in all I aboslutely love PAM's. Some may think they're hype, but to me they really help me forget about the embargo at least for an hour or so
. Well I'm in the market for another box, so I'll be saving all my pennies because I know once it's in my possesion I'm going to be smoking them at a far slower rate this time.
