I have to thank Bart, of Sabor Havana (PBG), for gifting me this preproduction edition of the Ashton La Aroma de Cuba, special edition (robusto or smaller). We were talking about the new Pepin sticks TB and Cubano, each of which I purchased, I'd buy a box of each. They are full bodied and GOOD to any Pepin lover.
I might start out saying that I'm not into the nuances of most of you, like art, I know what I like and don't like but can't explain why.
Here goes...
The prelight draw was very loose, had a little concern especially about burn.
Heating the foot gave off a very Pepin aroma. (have you noticed that all DPGs have that same aroma?) The 1st draw said to me "Pepin didn't make this cigar Fuente did", very VSG like. The 2nd draw said "hmm, very DPG Black like, but more complex".
That is the way it continued to the nub, sometimes like a VSG, sometimes like a Black, but in either case, better then each (BTW, I prefer a Black).
For those who have issues with spice/pepper, stay away. Although, even tho it is quite spicy, it never got harsh even at the nub - is there a smooth pepper?
The burn was very good, never had to pull out the butane.
All-in-all, I'd buy two boxes, I just hope the price point is not too high. Bart said they'd be ~$8.
Even tho the TB and Cubano are very good, this is better, they are more like most DPGs, this is like a DPG only different in a much better and more complex way. I think Pepin has a winner but I shouldn't let you guys and ladies know because there will be fewer for me.
Mikey (MadeinDade), Bart wanted to know what I thought of the stick, can you forward this info to him as I won't be in town for a few weeks.
