In answer to the first question, I most definetly keep the boxes closed!

With respect to the box being plastic sealed, mine never end up being put away with the plastic seal in place. I always open the boxes I buy, as soon as I get them. I do so to check the cigars for damage, beetles and whatever else could possibly be wrong, even when I do not plan on smoking them for six months, a year or longer. If there is any problem with the cigars, you can get them replaced easily that way. Not so easy, if at all, six months or a year down the line!
