Review - Partagas Spanish Rosado

DATE: 2006/06/11
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: Partagas Spanish Rosado
SIZE: 5.50 X 52
ORIGIN: Honduran
WRAPPER: Honduran
BINDER: Dom, Hon, Mex
FILLER: Hon, Conn
SHAPE: Robusto (called San Agustin)
AGE: In my humidor since 2006/05/21
VENDOR: Gifted by my son.
PRICE: Current retail is $5.00 each.
AMBIENCE: 8AM Sunday morning. Warm, not so humid and very still.
BEVERAGE: Coffee - black. NOTE: This cigar just did *not* go well
with coffee. To be fair, I dumped the coffee, rinsed my
mouth and just stuck with the cigar.
APPEARANCE: Rather light weight cigar; with a lumpy veiny corojo type
of wrapper. Didn't look so well built.
PRE_LIGHT: Smelled good and tasted like sugar cane and fresh hay.
DRAW: Partagas almost always have a perfect draw...
FIRST_THIRD: Tasted a bit "young" to me; and put off an earthy, grassy
sort of flavor. The wrapper tasted a little bitter for
the first inch or so.
SECOND_THIRD: Started getting a bit peppery on the tongue, and flavors
stayed the same, but a bit one-dimensional.
FINAL_THIRD: Developed a bit on the sweet hay tones, but just a little
and not until the end of the cigar. Too bad as otherwise
it was pretty good.
BURN: Burned even but a bit fast.
ASH: Mottled grey very flakey ash with yellow center.
SMOKE: Not a lot of smoke, and a bit bland.
STRENGTH: Mild to medium at the end.
FLAVOUR: Grassy, earthy and sweet, but didn't really develop.
FINISH: The grassy tastes lasted a short while, but wasn't good
enough for me to further delay some coffee.
SMOKE_TIME: One hour even.
IMPRESSION: Perhaps I was just so impressed by the recent Partagas
Black, that I had higher expectations for this stick.
No, I think that the Spanish Rosado is just a taste
profile that I find less attractive than the dark
heavy smokes.
RATING: 6 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.
COMMENTS: A pretty fair cigar, but a bit one dimensional. Could
improve with some age, or could be dynamite for somebody
with different tastes than I have.
