Shawn
Not really a bolt in kit, but there are a few crown conversions around still And i think that Clarks Corvair still carries a few of the kits, but they are a bitch thats for sure. But holy hell! they run hard. Im going to build a 327 engine with a custom kit to put the engine back farther in the car. Twill be fun. But gotta finish the corsa first! Lots of work to go on that sucker.

as far as the 180s, they are really cool and stuff but the 140s are so much easier, the 180s have rediculous turbo lag so they dont do so well with the autocrossing but Ill probably end up with one of those too. At some point im going to build a twin turbo engine for the corvair.

my list of projects surrounding the corvair should keep me busy a while.

Re: Anyone into old cars

I love cars. Muscle cars are the way to go because they are super easy to work on. I have a 67 Camaro that I bought for $1,700 when I was 16. Now some 15+ years later I get guys offering me high 20K every time I drive it.

That's the key, drive it! Don't buy some trailer queen.

There are still affordable muscle cars out there if you stray from the limited production stuff.

The best advice I can give anyone though is before you stuff a big motor in a muscle car stuff some big brakes on it. Stock breaks suck on most muscle cars, especially in comparison to todays minivans with soccer moms slamming on the breaks in traffic. Last thing you want to do is slam your beauty into someone else.

I also have a 78 Landcruiser FJ40, and a dirt bike. I used to have a motorcycle. I get way more smiles per mile in the Camaro than i did on the motorcycle.

The Dodge Mopar we got for our son cost 2,500 dollars. The difference between drum brakes and disc are worlds apart! You can find out really fast how important the difference is if you did not grow up with these old cars.

The Cuda was just one such car!

Yup, That was the first thing I did was disk brakes up front. Looking for a kit to do the rear brakes but they are few and far between. if it accelerates fast, its gotta stop fast.

Re: Anyone into old cars

You want to restore an old car? Man, do I have a deal for you. One owner, 93,000 miles and a true classic. We bought it new in 1972. It's a Pontiac Grand Prix (for you youngsters). I was always going to restore it but got sidetracked building airplanes for quite a few years. Now, I'm too old and creaky to do car restoration work. 400 cu in engine, 3 speed auto.

Re: Anyone into old cars

When I was 16 I stole my Dad's 67 Alfa Romeo spider and hit a tree and scratched a fender, well that scratch cost me way to much.Well after years of the car sitting in the family garage with my fender on it, I starting offering my Dad checks.Well he finally gave in and I am now restoring the car.
Always go after your dream car I did

That's funny I was talking to my wife today and suggested the mercury comet of the same year. We had one just after we got married. Bought it for $300. Perfect body and low miles. and the car was fantastic too. I suggested we buy another and make that our restore car.

Re: Anyone into old cars

Here is a link to some conversions for Mopar ....You can change them from drum to disc.

http://www.magnumforce.com/wilwood_m...rakes_drum.asp

Our boy's car....Still needs work but has same vin on frame and matching vin on engine. It had been lowered and would scrape if you hit a bump. So, for him we changed it and raised it since it is his everyday driver.

We have a friend who is working on a Ford Falcon Wagon. It is great when you find parts and they are not that expensive. Heck, we put a new water pump on and radiator re-work and re-worked some fuel lines for next to nothing! I will see if I can get some pics up of the Falcon.

BTW, those are some nice SS's.Anyone into old cars-74-dart.jpg

Motorcycle!! Great feeling being on two wheels. Even though I'm still a noob at that as well, it's like another world, kinda like cigars.
