Anyone into old cars

My wife and I have been debating. Motorcycles or get an old car to restore. Like I don't have enough to spend money on. I like the idea of cars since I kinda know how to work on them. Bikes are foreign to me, they're fun to look at but I have only have been on dirt bikes when I was little.

She wants a 55 - 57 bel air. Not on my budget.

Any advice on good, old car websites?

Re: Anyone into old cars

IF you want something interesting and really uncommon get a 74 Eldorado MotoGuzzi Italian cop bike that was very common here in the USA before they switched to Harley's. They are easy to change the pistons and heads on more car like in construction etc. and bring a good price when restored. The other suggestion relates to the 57. If you can afford it and have some experience it would be a great car to restore...albeit costly. We recently though got a son a 74 Dodge Mopar and he is totally stoked by it. A nice muscle car or 'vette would be a good restore car too. If that is not to your liking get an old VW beetle and restore it. All it takes to drop the engine is four bolts and disconnect the heater hoses and disconnect the carb linkage and use a transmission jack on the engine and raise the body with a floor jack and you can have the engine out in about an hour by yourself.

I was thinkin muscle car. VW would be nice but I am kinda a big guy and that would look awkward. It would be perfect for the wife and kids but I am wanting to do something were I can spend time with the son and have him help with the car.

Any late 60's muscle car would be a great project.

There are a couple big swapmeets in the Carlise Area durhing the year....My grandfather ran a restoration shop while I grew up..I know alot on how and where to find the parts....I dont know it all but it was an important part of my groing up..

A 4dr chevelle or Nova or Nomad would be an easy progect and fit the family...Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!!!

Get a muscle car. I recommend something that you dont see much of, everyone has a 69 camaro or a 65 mustang

Funny you should say this ...There is a Mustang junkyard close by....I am sure there are a few around!! The Camaro might be a tad harder to come by.
The Nova and Chevelle SS are great cars.

Here's my project car. If I got a do-over though I'd go with a '55 or '56 Bel Air.

my first project car was a 73 el camino. Then the back end got ran over by an 85 bronco with giant tires.

So I vote old car.
In 69 the SS was offered the 396 and the 454 (LS6). Most likely your is the 396. If it is not a true SS then do you have the 327? By the way, both your cars rock

454 LS6 wasn't offered until '70. This was a SS 396 until we put a 454 in it
