Mechanic Needed!!!!

Ok.......last saturday I changed the solenoid on my 95 Toyota Tacoma 2.7. All I did was unhook the negative side of the battery and swap out solenoids. As soon as i started it and took it for a drive it ran like crap! I figured this is because the computer was without power and reset itself...it should adjust and run like normal........i never did. I checked for codes.......notta zilch none. No check engine light nuthin. Its not the plugs, wires, cap or rotor....cause they are all new. (installed after it started running like crap). When you get on the gas it almost feels like your choking the engine out. Like its starving for air or gas. Im at a lose. I can usualy fix my own stuff but there are way to many sensors and junk on this motor.

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

I would recheck the connections on the solenoid. Then I would check to see if I bumped, lossened or broke something else while I was replacing it.

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

Might be a loose ground..with it being fuel injected it might just be loose enough to cause an issue.

Good Luck..I HATE Electrical Gremlins!!

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

Ill double check the negative on the battery but im certain its tight. There is a hot wire on solenoid and then the switch wire. Starter works like a champ.

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

Check all the vacuum lines and air cleaner connections. Maybe you bumped something loose. Make sure the hose clamps (if you have any) are tight on all the connections of the air cleaner/intake tubes/hoses. I had a similar problem one time that arose out of the blue and was stumped for a while. I just started checking everything and found a somewhat loose clamp on my tube coming from the air cleaner. Tightened it up and problem solved.

Good luck.

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

Did you get your problem fixed yet? I'm curious to know what it was if you did.

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

Check water temp sensors (all of 'em). Does it stutter in lower or higher rpms? Is it running rich? any smoke/what color?
I agree, check all the vacuum lines for leaks; put your ear up to them and listen for hissing. Make sure nobody shoved a potato or something in your tail pipe lol.
Check your spark plugs and their holes, and take a dry paper towel, wrap it around a clean screwdriver, and stick it in the plug holes to make sure there's no water in 'em. Good luck man.

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

Did you say the negative side not the positive side. I thought to reset codes, etc. you disconnected the Hot or positive side...and wait 5-15 minutes?

Re: Mechanic Needed!!!!

I'll echo Shawn, check your ground where it attaches to the frame. I had a ground wire rust completely in two, but it "looked" fine. Gave me fits for about 3 months!
