Hi everyone!!!
I'm a newbie and have had an "indulgance" 500 cigar humi from Cigars Intntl for approx 4 months. (christmas Present) My question is this, is it normal to have lower humidity levels on your hygro in the bottm of the humi? I seem to be running quite a bit more humidity close to the top and less on the bottom. I was always told it would be the opposite. I am using a digital hygro and an analog back-up. I am humidifying with three square brick type humidifiers and one crystal gel container. I have all of them in the top tray because I was told that the humidity would go to the bottom but am thinking of putting one (the gel) in the bottom. I also have thought of getting a micro fan and running a ribbon cable out the humi to power it from a 12 volt transformer (with a timer). If I do that I will make a post with pics... Help ,Philip P.S. I was wondering if anyone knows where you can get one of the ribbon cables they use for the hydra humidifer to use for my fan experiment... |

Re: Humidor set-up
Humid air is less dense and, therefore, will rise - Here is a nice summary - Source is listed below the summary.
What does air consist of? The air we breathe consists mostly of the following gases: Nitrogen (N2) 78% Oxygen (O2) 20% Noble gasses 1% Carbon dioxide (CO2) 0,03% Water vapor (H2O) 0,97% The amount of water in the air greatly varies. When large amounts of water are present in the air other elements are present in lower amounts. The amount of water in the air can rise up to 4%. The lowest percentage of water in the air is 0,5%. Water presses present gases closer together, so that it can take up enough space. When the amount of water in the air is very low, air is called 'dry'. The weight of 22,4 dm3 of dry air is 28,96 grams. When the air contains sufficient amounts of water it is called humid. Humid air is lighter (less dense) than dry air. Apart from the elements that have been summed up earlier, other elements are also present in air. However, the percentages of these elements are very low. Aerosols can be found in air. These are dust particles that are blown off the earth's surface by wind, or emitted during volcanic activity. When burning processes take place, ashes and grime particles also end up in the air. The composition of air varies greatly with height. Over ninety kilometres above the earths' surface oxygen molecules fall apart and only oxygen atoms are left. Over one hundred kilometres above the earths' surface, nitrogen molecules also decompose. At this height the air does not have the composition we know. The atmosphere is completely different there. http://www.lenntech.com/FAQ-air-chemistry-physics.htm

Re: Humidor set-up
I was going to "magyver" a fan but have found an oust fan so I think I will try them first... I'll post a pic of the humi with the oust when I get it. My only concern after seeing it is if it will fit in the bottom of the humi and IF I should place it in the top or bottom... Thanks again... ![]() |

Re: Humidor set-up
i have an oust fan in my cooler located at the bottom pointing up-seems to spread the RH around nicely-in my 100ct (no room for a fan) i stick an extra tube of dry beads in the top tray, seems to level things out too

Re: Humidor set-up
You don't need a fan. Put the humidification in the bottom. I have several 500 counts and the humidity is 2% higher in the bottom than the top.

Re: Humidor set-up
1) Go to Heartfelt Industries
2) Get at least 1/2 lb (1 lb would be better, you'll need it sooner than you think) 65% RH beads 3) Place half in the bottom 4) Place half in the top 5) Graveyard the gel and bricks 5) Use hygrometer for 2 weeks to verify and you can put it away 6) Problem solved P.S. The fuller you can keep that thing, the more stable the RH. You want the lid to barely close.
