Yet another humi set-up help thread...

I am totally up in arms about this. I got a older, hand me down humi, that needed reseasoned. I wiped the wood down with a distilled water sponge, then tossed a bowl of distilled water in it for a week. Everything was going fine, right at 82%. I got my Cigarmony pucks, took the water out and added the beads. From then on its been a mess. The humidity is up and down and when a add a cigar is steadily drops. I did a flashlight test, and no leaks. I tossed my smokes (all 3 of them :0) in Tupperware for the time being. I just sanded and vacuumed the humi out. I am going to go through the seasoning process again. Does anyone have a fail proof seasoning method? I do not want to wipe the walls down again. I have searched till I'm blue in the face on here and google for what I thought was a decent seasoning method.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Aaron (totally lost)

Get a second hygro.

Anywhere between 60 and 70% and you are golden imo. Every time you open it the reading will swing, thats normal.

I have 3 Cigarmony pucks...According to the sites specs I only need two. I don't think thats an issue.

At times with the pucks and 2 cigars in the humi, it was dipping below 55%. Which would mean either a leak or the humi wasn't seasoned correctly, right?

Re: Yet another humi set-up help thread...

Nothing is fool-proof, but here's a method that has worked for me.

Filla small glass with about 8-10 ounces of distilled water. Put it in the microwave until it just begins to boil, then set it in your humi (on a piece of plastic or something to keep the hot glass from scorching your humidor). Let it sit overnight and remove, then add your pucks.

It is tougher to keep a humi properly humidifed with a lot of empty space, 3 cigars I assume your humi is pretty empty. If your cigars are underhumidifed, the RH will drop when you add them as the cigars absorb the moisture. You will have to play with it for a day or two to get it to stabilize.

I do believe that is the main problem, my sticks are underhumidifed. I will try the boiled water, thanks!

Tom is right about that, the more cigars you get in there the better.A empty humi is very tough to regulate.

I will work on that, I only have 3 now. The rest the guy gave me with the humi are all dry'd out and cracked. They had to be trashed. I just don't have the funds to fill a 100count humi right now. Perhaps I should wait on reseasoning it till I can get a few more sticks?

Not a bad idea. Ziplock bags or tupperware works well for a few sticks.Just be careful not to over humidify if you use a tupper container.

Like the others said, keep the sticks in the tupperware and put the pucks in the humi and don't touch it for a week or two... then sing up at cbid and fill that sucker up... then go to Walmart and get a cooler and a lb of beads... then go to Target and get a vino temp and a cigar oasis... then go a get a cabinet and a hydra... then wonder how this just happened...
