Boveda Seasoning Packets

Has anyone used these?

I just got a gorgeous 150 ct humidor from cheaphumidors.com. It's got 4 boveda seasoning packets in it now. The directions say to wait for 10 days. The wait is KILLING me!

I also have a cheapy 15-20 ct humidor. It was one of those "buy $100 worth of cigars, get a free humidor" deals when I was first starting out. The ad said the humidor was a $50 value, but of course I now know that I can get similar ones for $15 online. Oh well, live and learn.

I have one boveda seasoning packet left. I would like to re-season the little humidor one the 150 is good to go, as it has always seemed to have a problem holding humidity. The boveda directions say you use 1 packet for every 50 cigars your humidor will hold, plus 1 extra (hence the 4 in the 150 ct).

Do you guys think I can get away with using just 1 boveda seasoning packet in the little humidor? 2 would seem like such overkill.

Or is the whole boveda thing just marketing hype, and should I have just gone with the shot glass of distilled water method?

I think they are a waste of money. .89 cents for gallon of dist. h2o and a shot glass and I can season just fine in 3/4 days tops.

Boveda got a choke hold on unneeded items. They work, but having to replace their Boveda Packs can get uber-expensive.

I'm with everyone above. Boveda is a waste of $$$ that could buy more cigars

Re: Boveda Seasoning Packets

do what Icehog3 does....microwave a cup of distilled water and set it in the humidor....wait overnight, that will season the humidor.

Re: Boveda Seasoning Packets

I used Boveda packets to season my three humidors and they worked just fine.

It usually takes 3-4 days and that should be good enough. In my two glass tops, I just waited for the RH to settled around 70-72% and they were good to go. In my 500 count Vault, I just checked it every day and once it was stable at 70-72%, I thought that was long enough.

In terms of the number of packets, I seasoned my 500 count vault with three or four of them and it worked just fine. Of course, the RH is usually around 60% out here in San Francisco, so I probably could have seasoned the wood by just leaving it open.

I also used the same packets to season my first two humidors a couple of months a part and they still worked fine. I just sealed them in a ziplock bag afterwards.

I think you answered your own question in a round about way and didn't even realize it

I think the answer is, it does not matter.
The humidor probably does not seal very well so no matter what you do it will still have the same trouble after you re season it.

But like you said "live and learn", been there done that !
