Spanish cedar idea for coolers

I've noticed a number of guys have been taking cigar boxes apart and using the sheets in their coolers. I'm assuming guys are doing this to get the cedar smell in their coolers.

While I was working in my shop yesterday, I looked at my dust collector and noticed the bag was getting full of pure Spanish cedar shavings.

While staring at all that Spanish cedar, the idea hit me. If guys want the smell of Spanish cedar, why not just use mesh bags or a Tupperware container with holes in it of these shavings.

If any one is interested in this, let me know. You would just have to cover the cost of shipping.

Something else that I thought of when I was reading the title of your thread Tim is you could make a custom bottom trays for coolers based on dimensions. I was thinking a that had runners on the bottom to keep it slightly elevated off the bottom of the cooler.

Anyway just my uneducated opinion

I believe those have another chemical in them to repell moths, but I could very well be wrong on that.

Re: Spanish cedar idea for coolers

It would seem that you would have to keep an eye after mold in the bag. Moisture within the chips in the center of the bag may not get enough air circulation and it would probably develop mold spores, which we all know what they can do when in your humi. Thats my , but it seems like a cool idea. Try it out with a small sample of cheapies, and see how it plays with humidity and the overall aroma in the humi and of the gars.
