Please help me pick out humidor for my husband.

I know nothing about cigars. I want a humidor that holds about 50-75 cigars. I want it to have a good seal and anything else that is important. Please help me, I beg of you. I did order a humidor but it was chipped so I returned it. It ended up to be too large and would take up too much space in our apartment anyway. It said up to 150 cigars and I don't think I should get one that big again. Here is a link to it.

I want something pretty and functional at a competitive price. Please help me out here. It is all so confusing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

From what I understand, Tampa Humidor is pretty good. They stand by the products they sell. A few people had very minor problems with them, and TH rectified everything. The humidor you have there is quite nice.

it is so big though, and there were chips not only on the outside but inside it did not seem very well made. What is a cigar oasis? is that needed?

So do you think I should just get the same one? Isn't it huge though? I don't hassle him about his cigar smoking, but I don't know if I should encourage it that much. Our anniversary is coming up and he always drops hints about wanting a humidor.

Re: Please help me pick out humidor for my husband.

Nice looking humidor... especially if you like the antique styling. Depends on your decor, I suppose.

You asked about an Oasis... it is a large humidification device, really made for a large cabinet style humidor.

All your husband will need for his will be some "beads" as described here:
http://www.cigarmony.com/index.asp?P...ATS&Category=8

Hope this helps. What a sweet wife you are!

The one you got him is definately not too big. Think in advance some, he will fill that up with almost no effort at all. Better to go "bigger" than "smaller".... That was a really nice humidor you originally got him. I bet he'd love it, plus it was your first instinct. Stick with your first instinct...

Re: Please help me pick out humidor for my husband.

I bought my 75 count from cheaphumidors.com and love it. I even bought the "Imperfect" one. Can't really find anything wrong with it.

Any other questions please make sure you ask here or send a Private Message and I will try to help.

What a nice gesture for you to take the time to find Club Stogie and ask for help.

All the best,
Al

Re: Please help me pick out humidor for my husband.

Okay, so I am going to try my luck again with the same humidor. But I still don't understand which additional things I should get. Would someone please tell me which ones i should get?

1. crystal fresh humidifier upgrade (Add $6.00)
2. Crystal Rectangular Humidifier Upgrade (Add $9.00)
3. Humidor Set Up Kit (Add $15.00)
4. Round Digital Upgrade with Cal Kit (Add $17.00)

I also need to buy cigars so I don't have to buy the extra things from tampa humidors website necessarily. About the cigars- I know that my husband smokes romeo y julieta romeo number 2 and also rocky patel vintage 1990. I know this because of snooping, I know nothing about cigars and don't have anymore information other than that they are "normal" sized cigars. I think he would be open to trying other things so long as the size is regular, though I don't want to get him a box of something he detests so perhaps I should get him some Rocky Patels since I think that is his favorite. I think I remembering him mentioning something along those lines anyway. Any cigar suggestions? Oh, and I will buy some beads rather than the oasis as was suggested. What website is best for buying cigars?

Thank you all for your help. Sorry I am so clueless about all of this stuff, but as I said, I am not a cigar smoker.

Re: Please help me pick out humidor for my husband.

No need to apologize, it's alright. You're doing a very nice thing, and it's great that you're coming and asking questions when you don't really know.

Of the list there, all you should get is the round digital upgrade with calibration kit. The digital hygrometer is better than the ones that come with the humidors, and the calibration kit lets you see if the hygrometer is off so you know if the cigars are at the humidity they need to be. The humidity beads will replace the other options and are better.

As for cigars, you could look at other lines by those two cigar brands (Romeo y Julieta and Rocky Patel) in the "corona" size (which is what is considered "normal" size). But some other more seasoned smokers here could make other suggestions based on the flavor profile of those cigars for you.

Cigars International is a very good place to shop for cigars. You can check out samplers they have which are usually pretty good. This sampler is a Rocky Patel one which includes the 1990 and some others he might like in the same flavor range. This sampler has some Rocky Patel and Romeo y Julietas in it, and it's representative of a flavor profile that might suit him.

Anyway, hope I helped and good luck with the gift.

The Puck-ifier 100 65% should suit your need nicely. It humidifies a lot more space than your humidor provides, but that's good (it makes it easier to adjust to changes in humidity). I don't know why they aren't sold in more places; I guess because they're kind of a specialty thing and they're more expensive than less reliable humidification systems, but I think it might be that the makers (like Heartfelt Industries) just sell them themselves from their own cigar product sites.
