Humidity fluctuation between top/bottom in vino

Hey guys. I got a vino a few months back. Got beads from Scott. I have about a 6% humidity fluctuation from top shelf to bottom shelf. I have 1 1/2 lbs of beads spread throughout (i think its 1 1/2) and a small computer fan sitting on the rear bottom of the unit facing to the door. Is this much of a fluctuation normal in a vino?

thanks
Jay

I have the same issue but with 3 oust fans in it. I only notice it when it's been running for some time.

Re: Humidity fluctuation between top/bottom in vino

I have two computer fans in my winadors. They are in the top back corner and aim at an angle down the back of the cooler.
That creates a constant flow that churns the entire air mass in a big down the back, up the front motion. As a result, I have no temp or humidity stratification.
It's kind of a challenge to keep a clear path for airflow, but it makes me feel good to see all the numbers where I want them.
Another thing that helps is to rotate your bead bags. That'll help.

Re: Humidity fluctuation between top/bottom in vino

I have to agree with Shilala. I was having some problems with my vino and after talking with Scott I got it working much better now. It will be even better once I get some of his beads and throw out these other ones

I had a pc fan in mine that I had running on a timer, Scott recommended letting run all the time. I placed mine on the very bottom shelf in the back center of the vino facing up. After a little box organizing I have a nice airflow going and the RH is perfect on top and bottom of this beast.

**Also having the fan constantly running has helped to keep the temp down which keeps that motor from running and lowering the RH.

Re: Humidity fluctuation between top/bottom in vino

Can you guys post a pic of the fans and location? Im setting up my Vino and was thinking of a 12v 120mm computer fan on the bottom, set up to run 15 minutes at the top of every hour. I was considering running it all the time at 1/2 voltage too. Havent made up my mind yet.

Just kind of curious to see others. Thanks!

Vino should be 100% humid at both top and bottom, unless of course you already drank half the bottle...

This is the fan I'm going to pick up to solve those pesky fluctuations. http://www.buyextras.com/thcosyblpcif.html It will get set up to circulate the air as Shilala mentioned. It will sit against the back wall (might just velcro it to the back wall) without taking up too much room, plus it comes with it's own power supply.

Re: Humidity fluctuation between top/bottom in vino

Humidity is like a foggy day , it's always more humid at the bottom of the humidor than on top unless you have circulation , back to the foggy day , go up 4 or 5 floors of a high-rise and your on top of the fog , just like your basement is always more humid than the main or upper floors , same rule applies in a humidor

What kind of timer will allow you to kick on and off every hour? I've asked this before and got no answer. I'd love to find one as my timer only allows 7 on and offs per day.

This one might work for you. http://prostores1.carrierzone.com/se.../Detail?no=108 I plan on running my fan full time so no timer needed.

I actually built my own. It has an LCD display, temp/ humidity sensor, fan controller, and controls the VINO electronics... It tests on the bench fine, just finishing up putting it in the VINO.

I'm probably not getting enough circulation just facing it from the rear of the unit to the door. I will try to put it on the top facing down and see if that helps.

thanks guys!

I would be very interested in seeing this, and if your interested in duplicating it for profit PM me.
