OK I give up on this stupid......

jar for my cigars....I bought it el cheapo off the devil site and can't get the RH to settle down....I've tried using many different types of humidity devices but nothing seems to work....It's a clear plastic jar that has a latch for air tight freshness. There is a piece of what I assume to be Spanish Cedar lining the bottom. I don't think the cedar is actually holding that much humidity but the cigarless jar is reading 75 degress and 99% RH... even though I got it cheap I don't wanna just toss it away...any suggestions are welcomed.

Have you tried beads? They can absorb a bit of extra moisture out of the jar. I just learned this the other day.

Re: OK I give up on this stupid......

if your cigars are humidified when you put them in the jar, you shouldn't need any humidification device-the jar should be airtight, not breathe like a normal humi made of wood-if the cigars you put in are from cbid or CI (who notoriously ship wet) then it's no wonder the RH is so high

Is that reading from a reliable Hygrometer? It sounds like you have bottled a rain storm.

Re: OK I give up on this stupid......

Yeah I've switched those things out too...my last resort is taking the stupid cedar bottom out...

Hey wharfrathoss so I can just throw sticks in there and seal it with no humi device? really?

Re: OK I give up on this stupid......

I just use an airtight plastic box (Pelican) as a humidor - inside it I have 65% RH beads and three big pieces of Spanish Cedar (seperator sheets from cigar boxes, got for free from my B&M). This is working like a charm and it's always within 63-67% RH. You might want to try some beads and let the wood you have in there dry out a little.

Re: OK I give up on this stupid......

You could try without a humidifier, but keep an eye on the humidity. If you already have a humidor, then the beta fish might not be a bad idea.

Re: OK I give up on this stupid......

Well I took out the humidifying device..no luck..then I took out the piece of cedar..I think it was holding in all the humidity...I tried it without any cedar but I think the jar needs it for regulating. Thanks guys...

luckly I have a bunch of humidors...I just like looking into the jar.

You could always throw some McDonalds fry's in there and seal them up for two years, then take pics and put them on the Internet.

WTFM8? haha

99% humidity seems ridiculous - try calibrating the hygrometer.
Also if your smokes are really that wet, try tossing some sort of desiccant at the bottom.

Not sure if this is the best idea but I've used the gel packs that come with new shoes to help lower humidity before (I think its silica in them...). Sucks the humidity out in like an hour!
