Distilled Water
Failte new member here. I have three humis (not boasting) and use distilled water, my question is . We don't have humi beads here and cant buy distilled water in our shops, i have to buy it from the cigar stores and the bottles say with anti mold. But is that true i can buy a gallon bottle form my chemist, so is there a real difference or just a scam to buy of the cigar store.

Re: Distilled Water
Dunno about how these things work in Ireland, but Bear posted a thread on making your own distilled water. He's north of the Arctic Circle most of the year, so doesn't have access to any distilled water commercially.
Do you happen to know what the anti-mold agent is? It may be way cheaper to make your own distilled and then buy a small amount of polygycol (sp?) to put in it. Personally, I use 65% beads with distilled water and don't worry about mold, but cost, access, etc. all has to be figured in to one's setup. |

The distilled water marked "with anti-mold" is more than likely just a 50/50 Distilled water and Propylene Glycol mix. The propylene glycol has some anti mold properties as well as being the other key ingredient to maintain the 70% relative humidity. If you can get gallons of either seperately it's far less expensive to mix them 50/50. Just curious but, aren't you able to order beads online?

Re: Distilled Water
Ye could always distill yer own water, mate. It just takes a stove and a load of patience, or a small cristal distiller (ye probably used one in chemistry class).

Chemist = Drug stores there right?Using beads there is no standing water and or high humidity spots per se so the advent or mold is far less likely. Without the beads it's more likely you can grow mold. Depends on what you use. Maybe get some of the foam pre treated with AF. Remember to replace it once a year or you will get a lil mold farm going. or You can get beads from heartfelt industries. I'm sure they will arrainge to ship to you for a lil extra. That would be my reccomendation. |

The beads are definitely the way to go if you can swing it. IMO
