Re: Cutters
I have an Xi3 and an Xi2 , world of difference between the Xi3 series & Xi2 seeing that the Xi3 doesn't have the plastic in the middle and is solid SS so it has more weight and operates allot better , but I had the 'bump' when I first started using it until I accidentally used it upside down and I had a perfect cut !
Like shown in the illustration link above you will notice that the release button is facing down or towards the foot of the cigar , this lets the bottom blade engage first as most of the pressure when cutting with a Xi comes from the thumb , so if you use it with the release button facing you ( cap end up ) the top cutter will engage first and that's what leaves the bump in the middle , always cut with the release button facing down and towards the foot of the cigar , works for me ![]() Only thing I don't like about XiKar is that they're slippery little buggers and I have dropped it many times , I wish they could design it with some groves or something that you can actually hang on to it somehow , other than that the Xi3 is the best cutter I own ! ![]() |

Re: Cutters
I'm probably the forum oddball on this subject. I use the $3 cheapos, but I sharpen the blades so they cut far better than the price suggests. Sure it's a bit of trouble, but I can do it in the commercial breaks for a show, and if broken/"borrowed"/etc it's easier to swallow the loss compared to a Palio or other high-end cutter.

Re: Cutters
i guess that is one way to look at it...its far easier to swallow losing a cheapy than losing a palio but i still hear nothing but good things so i think im gonna have to suck it up and buy one

My palio came in today and it left a ridge on the first cut. My Xikar makes a clean cut every time. I'm returning the palio and sticking with my Xikar.

Re: Cutters
PG makes a single guillotine cutter that is the sharpest blade I've ever seen. I've had mine for three years and it's amazing. The only problem is if you're prone to losing things, then you would have just lost a lot of money.

Re: Cutters
Iv'e had a Palio for over a year now. As long as they keep making them, it will be the only cutter I'll ever use. Although the one I have will probably last the rest of my life. They can't be beat....

Re: Cutters
I have had my regular finish Palio for about a year and a half, and it rides in my pocket every day with NO sheath over it. No problems yet, cuts perfect every time. I love it so much I decided i needed a burlwood Palio to compliment the regular finish Palio.
That being said, I also have a Xikar Xi2, and the spring sticks when I try to open it. I put it in an envelope and sent it back to Xikar for fixing, so we'll see how it does when I get it back. Scott

Re: Cutters
Palio and Xicar are nice cutters without a doubt. I bought a Cuban Crafters cutter at a local b&m for 15.00 and it works flawlessly. Nice weight, super sharp and lifetime guarantee.
