Walmart $7 Hygrometer

Was at the local Walmart today and decided to try out the cheap digital hygrometer for use in my cooler. I'm salt testing it right now. It's only been about 9 hours, but it's dead on at 75%. I am really impressed. let's hope it stays that way til tomorrow morning when I throw it in my cooler.

I have two of them. They are both 4* off. But can't really beat it for $7.

I have several of them and I have a Diamond Crown which is dead on that I use to periodically test them. The Wal-Mart hygros are usually within 2%. (But I keep an eye on them - they will "weird out" once in a while.)

I find them near the rakes and shovels. There's a section of garden/lawn care that is different from the plants/flowers/patio furniture section. In the section with the hygros, there are a lot of outdoor thermometers and humidity measuring tools, some digital, some analog, some wireless, some wired.

I just picked one up this evening as well and I'm salt testing it now. Found in the lighting, outdoor/indoor temperature area near the paints.

Is that the Springfield model you're referring to?

I did both the salt test and the Boveda Humidipak at 72*F and with both tests it was +6%.

Re: Walmart $7 Hygrometer

Wal-mart has another one by Acurite that cost 7.95 and I tested them using the boveda calbration test and they both were at 76%. not bad. They also look nice and have a good display. I found them in the section were they have the smoke detectors. They have them with all the weather monitor stuff. It looks much better biult than the springfield one.

Re: Walmart $7 Hygrometer

As long as you calibrate these, there is no problem. In fact I would guess there are many less suppliers making chips for these than there are models of hygrometers. So someone must be using the same chip in a higher end model as in the cheapest WM version.
