heart felt beads
Has anyone known their beads to come out of their containers? I noticed some white flecks dropping out of my tube of beads onto some of my sticks.

Re: heart felt beads
My beads have done that too and I think it's par for the course. I like to think of it as kind of the crumbs at the bottom of a potato chip bag.

Re: heart felt beads
If you spray the beads with distilled water they will break up. This does not hurt the function of the beads. The only way to keep this from happening is to allow the beads to soak up the water from the air. Place the beads and a container of distilled water in tupperware or spare cooler. Takes a lot longer but beads will not break up. Hope that helps.

Re: heart felt beads
I just drip water into them.
I don't care if they break. |

I spray the beads also with distilled water and see the small particles also breaking off. Was wondering if occasionally just placing a bowl of distilled water at the bottom of the Vino would be enough to regularly re- hydrate the beads? |

I have been fighting high humidity all summer so I have never added water to my beads but I was planning on puting a wet sponge in the vino this winter to see how that worked for re-humitifying my beads.

Re: heart felt beads
Cracking and flaking of the beads does not effect their performance, no worries.

My only problem is the little flecks getting on my cigars... I'll need to res-situate my humidification system... |

Re: heart felt beads
I used the tubes for a while, but I hated:
1. That I couldn't really tell when the beads needed recharging in the tubes 2. Getting flecks. I got a couple of packages of knee-hi stockings for 60 cents at Walgreen's. Divided all of my beads into 2 ounce packages. No more flecks, and I spray right onto the fabric. Problem solved. And they hold a rock-solid 65%. |

I am going to buy some bead tubes, but after reading about the cracking, I think I am going to go the way that you described. I have a question for you, I do not know if it is irrelevant, but how many stockings did you use per package. |

I had about 6 ounces of beads left, from an original 8 oz order (I gave some away to a soldier in Iraq). I divided my beads into 3 packages of 2 ounces each, and put two in the bottom level of my humi and one on the top shelf. If you use knee-hi stockings, you can get 3 or 4 2-ounce packages out of one knee-hi. The finished packets are a little bit smaller than one of those blue racquetball balls. FWIW, I found that these el cheapo knee-hi's worked better than pantyhose. They were easier to work with because they were smaller, they kept their shape, and didn't fall apart with runs when I cut them. (I tried the experiment first with one of my wife's old pair of pantyhose. It wasn't pretty.) Of course, heartfelt DOES sell those mesh bags if you don't want to deal with the hassle of cutting knee-hi's. Hope this helps! |

Re: heart felt beads
I ordered my first beads and they should have showed up at my house today. I also ordered the tubes. Thanks for the tip about the stockings; may have to check that out.
Feel kinda weird just buying stockings at a walgreens though haha! |
