Talking New Humi and Extras (first time owner)

Well, I went ahead and ordered the a humidor (150-200 count). Here is the link: http://www.cheaphumidors.com/Merchan...roduct_Count=4

I went ahead and ordered a round digital hygrometer (I also have another spare one) and a calibration kit for them. With that being said, I will have one hygrometer inside the box and the other outside.

As for humidity beads, I went with 70%. The calculator for Heartfeltbeads (where I purchased my good stuff) recommended 2.2 ounces. I am going with the Large Round Humidifiers (2 ounces each). "http://heartfeltindustries.com/prodd...od=RH_Large_70" Better to be safe than sorry.

Now on to seasoning. I am just going to wipe down my humidor a few times with distilled water. Then I will leave a shot glass in the humidor few a few days until properly seasoned. Once I get a consistent 70% humidity or really close to it, I will go ahead and start filling up the humi.

The first victim will be the San Cristobal Clasico (5.0 x 50). I tend to prefer this size cigar.

If anyone has any pointers or recommendations for me to do... feel free to help out! This is my first humidor that I will put into working condition!

Oh I will, but I want to learn how to properly maintain a humidor before I go ahead and get a big boy! Got to start off with baby steps and work your way up...

You got a good plan. I really like the Heartfelt containers for the beads. you can never have too many beads!!

I do agree. One day I will have enough stogies to fill one up... but for my needs now and in the near future a 150 count is plenty. Only have a few smokes per month... so nothing to drastic yet!

Sounds like a familiar story.. usually has the same ending. It's a slippery slope!

Yeah, starting off with a small humidor always ends up as the person getting a bigger humidor and then an even bigger one. I should just go all out!

I think this humidor is actually going to hold around 100-125 despite the fact that it states it is a 200 count. Even so, that is plenty for me to start off an and be able to figure out how to properly control a humidor.

Starting off small and then working my way up to bigger humidors/bins is going to be great... it's like a growing/learning experience as you go.

That's a nice looking humi, good choice.

If you want to speed up the seasoning process I would heat up a tupperware container of distilled water in the microwave and put that in the humi instead of the shot glass.

You have also saved yourself some headaches by going with the beads right off the bat.

You know, I have heard about heating up distilled water... I am going to have to try that and see how that works. I would love to have my humidor set up as soon as possible to throw in some stogies!

Anyone know if I should throw in some pipe tobacco in my humidor as well? or is that not a good idea?

Bad idea. The sticks will wind up smelling and tasting like the pipe tobacco. I store my pipe tobacco in an old cigar box. Works fine for me.

Sounds like you have a good plan. But, if you hang out here, you will soon need more storage space!

Alright, definitely will store my tobacky probably in one of those smaller humis. Don't want to mix around with tastes/smells.

Re: New Humi and Extras (first time owner)

Here's some pictures of my new humi... but it sure looks lonely without cigars! I'm trying to find a nice complimentary cigar to my Black/White Russian drinks that I enjoy...
