what to do with a potentially crappy humidor

when i first started smoking i bought a "cool looking" box from overstock.com it can hold about 100-125 cigar and has an accessory door on the bottom, (I gave a description if anyone else has it) and it has worked OK, but needed more than constant care to keep the humidity at a 62-70% range. Then i bought a 100 -125 cigar off Costco.com and is much better at keeping the humidly, Ive heard advice that when you let the lid close it shouldn't slam shut but slow down as it creates a seal and the air escapes. The Costco humidor seems to have that seal when it shuts, but the overstock just slams shut. Is that humidor lost or is there something i can do to fix/use it, right now i don't have any cigars in it. And i don't know the names of the manufacturers any suggestions? the price ranges for both was 30-40 dollars.

try placing a strip of scotch tape along the sealing edge. try the dollar bill trick: close a dollar bill in the lid. pull it out. it should take some tugging to get it out. any place that its easy needs some tape. you can always add another layer too if you need.

I use the first humidor I purchase (20 count burl wood) as a dry box.

I use my old humi that doesn't seal to hold accessories - lighters, cutters, etc.

You can use it as a valet... keep your watch, wallet, keys cutters and stuff in it.

Either the scotch tape or weather stripping. You can get the stipping in varying thicknesses at a hardware store and it is really cheap. I actually think it would do a better job than the tape.

That was my first thought as well- use it for anything from cutters to rings from smoked cigars to spare change. The list is limitless. I would probably not use it for storing jelly bellys or other food stuffs unless you prefer a hint of spanish cedar in your jelly beans.

Re: what to do with a potentially crappy humidor

Just do it with the humidor

Use it for dry boxing or holding accessories
