The fan in my vino is constantly running to keep the temp at 70. Is this killing my RH?

Re: Vino Fan
I don't see why keeping the temp at 70 would kill the RH...have you tried pluggin the hole at the bottom and seeing if the vino will sit by itself at a comfortable temp without the fans on?

Re: Vino Fan
(raises hand) I'm a Vino Fan!
What is the RH when the temp is 70? I'm not sure if mine is running all the time Nick but it was keepin' steady 65/67% until I put in the cedar shelves this week then dropped to 43%! So I seasoned 'em and am about to put the beads back in, then the sticks. |

Re: Vino Fan
I had this problem when I first started. You need to check two things - if there is water in the catch tray, and if the fan is "leaking" water. The tray can be found on the bottom and if you see water, you need to seal the drain plug. The water itself is being condensed from the fan which is why you see a "leak" which is actually just the high rh condensing. If the above two are happening, seal the drain plug. Also, is your Vino empty? If so, fill it with empty cedar boxes. Spanish cedar can absorb lots of humidity and can keep your rh into the 60-70 range no problem. With an empty Vino, everything you open it, the humidity just rushes outside, but not so with it full of humidity absorbed cedar boxes.
I did the above steps and I have no more problems. I actually made a little slide out of scotch tape and it goes into a tupperware container.

Re: Vino Fan
It's not keeping the temp low that concerns me, It's the fan running, is that pulling air from outside or just circulating the air that's inside the vino. Basically this is an ignorance issue, "How does a refrigerator work?".

Re: Vino Fan
no the fan running will not kill your rh which is the reason you use a thermoelectirc and not a compressor.....for more vino info http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=145674
