new Haier uses beads 20x faster than my old Vinotemp!

Any clue what would cause this to happen?

My small Vinotemp ive been using for the past 2 yrs died and I picked up the cheap Haier for $40 at Wal Mart.

This thing dries out my Humi beads in about 5 days. My old Vinotemp would only need the beads replaced every 2 months.

Ideas? (other than take back the Haier and get another Vinotemp)

Hey there dog - You know, I think it's likely because the Vinotemp uses a thermo-electric cooling disk unlike most refrigerators. The reason the Vino works well as a humidor is because when we plug up the drain, the humidity is entirely contained within the unit while most refrigerators/freezers suck the moisture out of whatever is exposed within, just by the way it cools.

I don't know of other small fridges that have the thermo-electric cooling disk but I'd keep an eye out for one of those & take the Haier back. I'm sure other fellas on here will chime in too and tell you if there actually is another small appliance similar to the Vino.

Good luck!

Just like with your Vino, you should seal up any holes to the outside world so that all the humidity can be contained within. With the Vino, I wouldn't have ever noticed the drain if it weren't for the fellers on here. If the Haier's interior is black like the Vino, it's no wonder you might not be able to see it easily. I'd feel around or look inside with a flashlight. You know how the Vino had that drain tray at the back? Does the Haier? You could go backwards and see where the drain tray on the Haier unit is....if it's lower right or lower center or front left...check around there, but on the inside.

Then duct tape that puppy closed.

There is no drain AT ALL. This is just a 12btl Haier. The only hole to the outside world is the fan. I just checked it out thoroughly with a flashlight.

Temp is locking solid at 64. My humidity is 67% when i first put the beads in and within a couple of days its down to 57.

Hmmm....maybe the humidity is leaking through the fan. I've often wondered why the Vino doesn't do that too. That's a pretty large fan in the back of that sucker.

I'm at a loss on what you should do next other than take it back. I've seen Vino's cigar humidor online at Costo: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...se=&lang=en-US and if you're not terribly concerned about the price or hey, the holidays are coming...you could have that on your wishlist. It sure is perty.

Re: new Haier uses beads 20x faster than my old Vinotemp!

I don't know where you live, but here in the upper Midwest, it's furnace season. I have a small Haier too and it takes more water now in the cold weather than it ever did during the summer months. 36% humidity in my house verses 60% during non furnace season will do this.
