Hi guys...am absolutly in love with the site. There is alot of great information here.

Just picked up this new cutter...not what I wanted but for the price i couldn't say no ($2.

Does anyone use one of these? Are they any good or did I waste some money?

Re: Colibri cutters

I have a different type of Colibri cutter. I don't use it as much, I'm not sure why. Still, it is a nice cutter and it get the job done. My only Colibri lighter, a "Trifecta", sucks big time.

Re: Colibri cutters

I have a couple Colibri cutters including this fairly pricey one (by their standards) I bought it to match one of their "Phantom" lighter (the black "checks" are rubber...

(retail was $100 Cdn, but I paid $50 or about $40US for it) It's solid and well made but cuts like a butter knife... it's awful. I have $2 cutters that do a better job.

Besides not cutting worth a damn it's awkward to use and I've ended up pinching the web btween thumb and index finger many times.

As for their lighters, I love them!... I have about 20 different styles and for the most part they have been very reliable. I also own 2 Dunhills and a Dupont and while the Colibris are not near the quality they a showy pieces and a lot of fun. My faves are "The Lift", The "Beam Sensor", "The Don" and the "Trifecta" (I saw someone in this thread was unhappy with theirs. I liked my gunmetal one so much I bought a cobalt blue one to match the face of one of my watches.

Have a bunch of cutters but the one I gravitate to is a no-name cutter like this one:

My next one will be the carbon Palio.

Re: Colibri cutters

This cutter it truly "a peice".....of junk that is. It is going back to the store today. After it brutalized two of my precious stogies its over between us. The first was a torpedo....cut crooked cut fine throught the top and tore the wrapper comming out the other side....gave it a second chance on a CAO Brazilia and it did the same thing.

Re: Colibri cutters

That looked like a nice enough cutter but I think you've definitely done the right thing by taking it back.

After much research, I was looking to pull the trigger on a carbon fiber Palio from a BOTL on here but then I never heard back from him. Then I saw one at my B&M and was about to buy it but a couple of fellers there convinced me to buy the Xikar Xi3 wood cutter instead. My research on cutters narrowed my choice down to those two but I was really swayed by Palio supporters on here. But I'm glad I switched; I love the Xikar and it sure is nifty and different!

Re: Colibri cutters

The Palios are way overrated on this site. The blades are very nice but the construction and design of the cutter is cheap. The action is not smooth. The plastic is very cheap looking and feeling. It is also has trouble with some larger 60 ring cigars.

I bought a Palio after all the hype on this site. What a disappointment. My Savoy stainless steel cutter is far superior.

If I were you I'd go with something that is all metal construction and has a larger opening for larger ring gauge cigars. I wish Palio would take their blades and put them in a better casing, then they'd have a really good product.

I use my Palio daily, almost a year now and it has never, I repeat never cut bad. Its as sharp today as it was the day I bought it. I have a drawer full of cheap cutters that only lasted a dozen or so cuts and ended up in the "Drawer of shame" same place all the old cell phones go.

I have used a few Savoy cutters in the past and found them to be quite nice, not sure I would go as far as superior, but well built too.

Re: Colibri cutters

I would rate the blades on the Palio about 5 - 10% better than the Savoy but the Savoy is significantly better in feel, construction, appearance and overall usuability.

Re: Colibri cutters

Sorry to hear about this Colibri.
It sure looked sweet.

I have two Palios and many Xikars.
While both brands work very well for me and I have never had issues (one of the Xikars did break but man, the service was excellent and they took care of it right away), I find myself more times than not relying on the Palio.
Of the two Palios, one occasionally pops into two pieces and I put it back together.
I know I can send it in and they will take care of it but I don't find it to be a big deal to have it that way.
I love them and see no need to shop for any others.
I cut up to 54 ring which is the most I will smoke with ease.

I suppose all the information on CS about Palios can be called hype but I see it as many happy folks.

Re: Colibri cutters

Picked up a titanium X1 Xikar in its place... very impressed. I did also see some Montecristo cutters..not sure who makes the blades but they had a sturdy plastic shell and could cut up to a 60 ring gauge. I think in a couple of weeks im gonna grab one of those too for the hell of it...only $20
