How can I LOWER the humidity?

Looking for some tips from the other folks that live in humid climates. Just trying to set up my new humi, and due to the fact I live in SW Florida, keeping the temps and humidity DOWN are going to be my problem.

Currently I have been seasoning my new humi for 3 days, and the humidity is 84% even after I have removed ALL the humidification devices! Of course, our outside RH right now is 85%, so opening the lid won't help either.

Will adding some stogies help lower the humidity? Or is there a better way?

Thanks

Something like a vonotemp winecoolor with some 65% beads might do the trick.

Yes, try 60% or 65% beads. They'll absorb the extra humidity when needed.

I would think a combination of cigars + beads would do the trick.

Somebody once told me to use those little paks of silica gel that comes in prescription bottles or other packages? is this true? I am also in the market for buying used swampland in S. Florida.

That's a good idea. I know they sell the H3LL out of that Damp Rid stuff down here. I have some hanging in my closet. I think I will try putting some cigars in there and maybe some beads first, but it's certainly something to try as a last resort.

Still lots of good swampfront property up for grabs! Heck, you can built a whole house humidor down here, just leave the windows open!

Re: How can I LOWER the humidity?

I realize it is a problem for you but I must admit I am a little jealous. Like many others, I struggle and worry about providing enough humidity. Many a dollars have left my wallet in my quest to keep the humidity up between 65% to 70%. (Mostly in the winter months mind you.)

I am in a 12 step program now to overcome my addiction to 68% and the need to keep it there. I am currently apologizing to each cigar for worrying to much about the humidity.

I would think just throwing some dry beads in would do the trick.

Let me know if it works as I have a few in mine that seems to help out but it may be my imagination, too. I need someone else to confirm or deny if this helps them. About buying swampland in S. Florida,,,,am currrently working with a guy named Slick Willy who seems nice,,,Im worried he wants a retainer fee up front,,,I'm thinking WTH here,,,I just sent him one last month and he wants another check?
Must be some great swamp there!!

I hear ya on that,,,I'm currently in therapy and my guru says to quit smoking cigars altogether. Like I'm going to pay him and quit the only thing that keeps me sane?

Re: How can I LOWER the humidity?

I would buy enough beads x 2 recommended for your humi and I would interchange between the beads in your humi and ones you have "decharged" perhaps via oven or hair dryer (PS make sure in nylon or bag prior to hairdrying).

Let the one set of beads absorb what they can then switch them out for the freash set proabably every day or 2 until you get the humification down. The great part about this plan is depending on what beads you use 70, 65 or 60 % they will only absorb up to that limit so you don't have to worry about over drying your humi.

Cigars may or may not add to the RH reduction depending on how wet they are. But they will add stability.

I would also look at if you have the extra space adding spanish cedar. Dry it out a bit too. It will absorb and add stability.

I would watch out about adding the cigars right away if they are shipped at 70 % (for example) then get in the Humi and rise to 84 % then you make a effort to reduce to 65 % you might see some negative effects if done to quick. But I have never seen 84% RH in my life so I am only guessing.
