Hey all, first off I must say that you have a great forum here,
over the humidor thread. anyways I already have a 100ct table top humidor, however I am running out of room and am turning a bedside table type thing into a humidor (will post a pic soon). My question is do I need to line the box with spanish cedar or will regular cedar work alright because I am going to buy some spanish cedar trays and I will be storing all my boxes in there. If I dont have to use the spanish cedar I dont really want to, just to save some money. Thanks |

Re: what type of wood to use
You can always line your box with a veneer similar to this http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?p...0&cookietest=1. Most desktop humis are lined with veneer.

Re: what type of wood to use
Regular cedar won't work for a humidor, but if you use spanish cedar trays you don't need to line the inside also, unless the cabinet is made from MDF, particle board or some other glue laden product that might produce unpleasant fumes.

Kiln dried Spanish cedar is ideal from an aromatic standpoint.

Re: what type of wood to use
You can use regular everyday cedar if you like you cigars smelling like mothballs.
But if not then do what the guys suggested. There is Mahogany Luan that some guys use. From what I've been told, Spanish Cedar is in the Mahogany family. But for the best results get the Spanish Cedar.

Re: what type of wood to use
I would post a reply stating that a friend of mine that built humidors in the "cigar craze" of the 90's would use bass would for his customers that did not care for the spanish cedar. However, the last time I mentioned that, I was "put in my place" by a "professional arborist for the past 7000 years and whom GOD himself asked how to create wood" that bass wood was "NOT" a good choice.
So I am just not going to post that.
