I hope your week is going well, Jerry. That site, abebooks.com, is a great place that brings together used book stores from all over the world. I have bought books from that website for years and have never had a bad experience. Most of the cigar books on our list can be bought from that site and from others like amazon.com, etc.

Enjoy your reading and have fun putting into practice what those books have taught you,
Don

Jam it's funny you say that, I ordered the same book from amazon that was used and it also came signed and even had his business card hidden in the book! As far as the book is concerned, I thought it was very well done. Does anyone know where to find Paul Garmirian Cigars? In the book he talks about his line of cigars that come with three different kinds in a box, cigars for the morning, afternoon and night. I thought that was a very cool concept and was interested in hopefully trying them at some point if I can find them.

You can get Paul Garmirian Cigars, Carl, at:

http://www.smokingpipes.com/cigars/g...oduct_id=22820

Like you said, it's always a surprise when you order a used book. You may not only find the author's signature, but also some other interesting items hidden within the pages.

We're glad you enjoyed Paul Garmirian's book. Let us know about any other books about cigars that you come across.

Have a great week,
Don

That's a really genius idea. I can't believe I've never heard of them. Genius! Has anyone tried any of these cigars? I do love reading about cigars and appreciate the long list of books that I haven't read. I better get started!

The Good Cigar by Kevin Gordon

Hello Everyone:

I hope the day is going well for you. On the Cigar Dave show today, the book: The Good Cigar by Kevin Gordon, was recommended. I've ordered the book from abebooks.com and look forward to reading it. It was written by a former news reporter down in Florida back in 1987.

Like a good libation, books seem to get better with age. The thoughts are as pristine as they day they were written, and the knowledge in those books still serves us well.

If anyone has read the book or has any other recommendations to make to add to our list, please let me know.

We can learn a lot about the world of cigars from those who know that world best, especially when they send us their thoughts through the medium of a good book.

Have fun reading and smoking your sticks while you enjoy a tasty libation!

With many thanks to all,
Don

New book about cigars

Hello everyone:

I hope your day went well!

There is a new book about cigars that's available now from your local bookstore. I purchased my copy yesterday. Unbelievably, it costs only $8.00 and has over 250 full color pictures that feature many of the world's most famous cigar brands at their actual size!

The title of the book is: The Complete Guide To Cigars: An Illustrated Guide To The World's Finest Cigars by Steve Luck. The ISBN is: 978-1-4075-1604-2.

The flap of the book says: "From rolling to purchasing to understanding the political and economical importance of this valuable commodity, The Complete Guide To Cigars provides a fascinating insight into the world of cigars. Chapter one explains the history of tobacco and cigars. Chapter two provides an in-depth look at cigars themselves: how they are made, the difference between hand-rolled and machine-made cigars, the recognized sizes and shapes, what to look for in a cigar, and how to store, revive, and smoke them. The final chapter is a comprehensive directory of the major brands of cigar that includes detailed information on the manufacturer, sizes, flavor, boxes, and brands."

This book will make a great gift for any brother or sister of the leaf and at $8.00 per copy, this book is an outstanding value.

Share a book on cigars with someone and keep learning what makes our sticks such a joy to hold and turn into ash.

Let us know of any other books on cigars that you may come across so we can add them to our list.

Enjoy your week and your smoke,
Don

22. The Gourmet Guide To Cigars by Paul Garmirian (1990)

^^ that is a great read..

I only work like 10 minutes from his son's shop (PG Boutique in Mclean VA), but I never seem to be able to find the time to get out there .. one of these days.

If you check out Paul's website and click "Authorized Dealers", you will find a list of all places that sell it. http://www.pgcigars.com/

I am lucky enough that the shop directly across the street from my office has PG's.. but they don't carry the full line and they are bit more expensive than I know PG's are.

Happy New Year, everyone!

If you have come across any new cigar books, let me know so they can be added to our list. If not, then do a friend of yours a favor this year, and get her or him one of the books on our list. These books can be ordered at your local bookstore. At abebooks.com and amazon.com, you can buy the ones that are out of print.

Reading about "the Craft of the Leaf" will broaden the horizon of your friends and may make them more grateful to all of those the world over who grow and create these treasures we so enjoy turning into "Yankee" blue smoke and "Confederate" grey ash.

Enjoy your new year, everyone, and share a book, as well as a stogie, with a friend this week.

Be well,
Don
