I think I've hit a new level of cheapskate...
I figured out how to recharge a Boveda Humidipak.
Steaming hot water, into a glass jar, with a smaller glass jar in the pool of water, but not submerged....rest the humidipak on top of that smaller glass jar so it gets maximum steam exposure....seal jar, wait until jar is room temp. Repeat if necessary. note that this may affect what RH% it works at, so keep a tiny amount of nearly dry beads in there as well to absorb any excess. ...lol, the things you do to save cash when Unemployed ![]()

Haha, that's awesome. Makes sense; they're made from a vapor-permeable membrane, and they're just bags of salt. Makes sense to be able to recharge them somehow. Because of the material they're filled with, they should still operate at the same RH.

Re: I think I've hit a new level of cheapskate...
I tried something similar. I put a dried out boveda in a bag with a small container of moist salt. I figured that the salt would put out 75%, so the boveda pack would absorb everything above 70%. It didn't work seem to work though. Maybe it did, but the amount of water used in the salt probably didn't put a dent in the capacity that a boveda can hold.
I think I still have that crusty boveda pack, so I guess I'll be trying the steam approach tonight. |

It's too bad I don't have any old Boveda packs lying around. This could be fun.

Re: I think I've hit a new level of cheapskate...
When I find my SD adaptor, I'll post a picture of how I did it. Keep in mind, the humidipak should only contact the top of the jar it's resting on, and steam from the water below....pak and water contact is bad.
I figured this out after damaging my other one by putting it in a pot of steming hot water for an hour and the outer layer peeled off. The pak does become very flexible, almost saggy after this...probably a byproduct of the heat..so keep that in mind. Right now it's in a bail-jar humidor with only a hygrometer so I can see if it's still a 69% or not.

Re: I think I've hit a new level of cheapskate...
For the last couple of years I have been using a big ziplock and a couple of old sponge style humidification devices to re-hydrate humidipacks - but I never let them go completely dry
