I just got my first premium cutter, a Xikar X1, and I love the thing. It feels substantial, and I have never had a better cut.

Re: Giving up on POS Xicar cutter
I thought my Paleo cigar cutter was trash until I had a guy who'd been smoking for a long time use my cutter on my cigar and he cut it cleanly.

Re: Giving up on POS Xicar cutter
I'm a Palio guy myself but Xikar's have just a strong of a following, send it back it's got warranty and give it another chance if you rather not bother then Palio is the way to go!

Re: Giving up on POS Xicar cutter
It also depends on how much cap youre cutting. Sometimes the head-on-table method is even too much. I use my Xikar 99% of the time, but I am no stranger to the bi-level cut. when you get it back, practice just clipping about half the cap, so little that about all that comes off is cap. I get the flattest cuts that way.
IME, there is no such thing as "self sharpening"

Re: Giving up on POS Xicar cutter
I never heard of this Xicar cutter you are talking about. As far as a Xikar, it does work by one side of the blade pushing the cigar against the other side. Then you do the fast clip. I had a problem with one side of mine sticking and tried to fix it my self with everything from graphite to gun lube before I sent it in, they sent me back a new one and it works and cuts just fine.

I had a similar problem with one of my Xikars as well. Sent it in and they sent me another one.

I hope it works that way with me as well, Frank. That's exactly what mine did. I mailed mine back on the 13th and as of the 28th I'm still waiting. Maybe the mail is slow. I did read after I mailed it that they suggest that a tracking number be used. I don't know. I'm no kid and I've never lost anything in the mail.

Re: Giving up on POS Xicar cutter
I received a brand new replacement cutter from Xicar today and it works perfectly. It's smooth and clips stogies cleanly. I also received the nice leather holster that they offer when you register the product. Nice little deal. Overall, I'm extermenly satisfied with Xicar. They're a quality company with good products. I think I just happen to get one that slipped by QC. Those things happen to the best.
